I wanted to get a gun when Gore was going to steal the election. I am married now and my wife has always been adamant about no guns. She thinks I am an over react. After Paris I said I told you. Look on YouTube and other places. It is worse than you think. I am thinking I should of get one but she will never be on board. I have kids now, she just thinks I am unstable and I can’t be trusted.
Oh well,Tell her you are doing it for her and the kids.If she balks then guess what???

Dude you have problems.
Over many years, my most excellent wife, when I was in my armory room, would come in look around and say, “I am not sure you have enough ammo,” or “Do you have enough magazines?” I would respond, “Good point, I better pick up a few more cases, blah blah blah,” and every now and then, she would say, “Do you have enough [pick a caliber] gun for the kids?” And I would say, “good point, I better pick up a couple more 1911’s”, or “good point, I better pick up a few more Remington 700s 30.06 custom, scoped, blah blah blah,”
But alas, after all of this, I have almost none left. I moved, don’t have an armory room anymore and I gave them all away - almost. At my age, I only have a couple personal protection handguns for myself and my wife.
Oh well.....
Take her to the range. Let her meet and see how responsible people handle firearms (unlike the Hollyweird BS).
Encourage her to shoot a handgun. Start with a .22 because they aren’t intimidating, then progress to a 9mm or a .38. I would start her on a revolver because they are so close to foolproof.
I’ve introduced a half-dozen people to firearms this way and all but one are now owners.
Good luck.
For your wife:

Tell her you are not unstable. You are a sheepdog.
The best way for an unpracticed individual to win a gunfight is to use an uncool weapon like a double-barreled shotgun. You can buy a used shotgun, a new 22 rifle, and a new 22 handgun combined for only about $950 or a bit more so jump in.
Take her with you to an Intro to Firearms class at your local range. Being around sober, sensible instructors might change her mind.
What ever you do, don’t go behind her back, buy one, and try to hide it from her. Women have wily ways and will always find out.
Your wife is being irrational.
Semi auto that allows the ammo (in a magazine) to be kept separate from the tool until needed (pistols and rifles available). Not the best for preparation, BUT BETTER THAN NO TOOLS FOR DEFENSE AT ALL. Another way is to have a shotgun, double barreled at least, which you can bring ammo to quickly and slap on the butt stock onto a Velcro strip and load accordingly.
“, she just thinks I am unstable and I canât be trusted.”
Wow, hard to know what to say....chosing wisely wasn’t an option, I guess. sorry.
You might want to ask your wife just how does she expect you to protect your family without adequate firepower?

If your right you could save your family. If you are wrong you have a gun you didn’t use. If she is wrong you all could be in serious trouble.
Time to throw that fish back.
My wife was very nervous about me having a gun until we were on my acres a way out from town and a cottonmouth slithered between her feet. Her attitude changed instantly. After that she required that I carry a gun when we did anything on the property. She has taken the NRA course now herself and is a better pistol shot than I am since my eyes started to get woppy.
unstable and can’t be trusted,,
well,
maybe she’s right!
The first major increase in the rate of gunbuying came in 1994 in the runup to the Congressional elections. Clinton and the Democrats had been making sounds and moves like they intended to end the legal ownership of guns. I know that’s when many people bought their first specifically military type guns and I often heard that the best gun to have was one that could be resupplied with ammo off a dead National Guard. The Republicans won those elections resoundingly and the price of not-new rifles which had been escalating sharply for several months fell back near the previous level in a few weeks. Lots of long guns were sold at flea markets.
Notch,
I have a good friend that is unstable and probably should not own a firearm with ready access. He is still my friend and fine in many aspects of his life.
Find two different male friend or relatives (not drinking buddies) and get their insight as to if you would be a responsible gun owner while you have kids at home. I suggest this because you sound unsure on this issue.
