When I am assessing politicians, I am more concerned with prosperity and defending the country against bad actors, including illegal immigrants. Their personal religious beliefs, whatever they are, I can tolerate so long as they do not try to impose them on me and the country.
As we see in this discussion, *personal* religious beliefs have a way of being revealed in public life.
It matters.
