RedState's own Leon Wolf did a great job exposing the Politico story about Ben Carson and West Point as a lie. Washington Post reporter Dave Weigel is also churning out great information on Twitter regarding the story.
I want to focus on what Donald Trump is doing with the story, however.
Yesterday, November 5, Donald Trump had this to say about Politico:
Look, Politico is so dishonest in so many different things. This Politico website or whatever the hell they call it, I mean, they write about me. We don't deal with them anymore because the level of dishonesty is incredible.
Today, November 6, Donald Trump is spreading the false Politico story about Ben Carson. Below is one of the several Trump Tweets citing the Politico piece.
What an incredible turnaround. It appears Trump is willing to do whatever it takes to destroy Carson, who is poised to disrupt his position as GOP frontrunner.
Yesterday, Trump seized on the silly CNN investigation of Carson's childhood. According to Trump, Carson's childhood might be a "total fabrication.?
Ironically, much of Trump's support is due to the perception that he tells the truth and shuns the mainstream media. It is now clear that he will abandon that notion when it suits him politically.
Now you are showing your idiocy. The sponge was a microsponge which was used to keep pressure off of a nerve but some people though very few have an adverse reaction to it. One of the patients he operated on did have a reaction so it had to be removed. Out of 15,000 operations over a 36 year career he had 6 complaints filed against him. That means he got it right 99.96 percent of the time. Trump hasn’t come anywhere near that precision and something tells me with the way you don’t research you haven’t gotten anywhere close to that!
This does not actually match the claims made by the documentation, however:
"In another horrifying case, a 69-year-old Florida woman claimed her eardrums were perforated during a 2008 operation for facial pain performed by Carsonâs team.
When the pain recurred, Carson told the patient, Darlene King, that she might have a tumor. But surgery revealed the lump was actually âa sponge he had left in (her) brainâ!

When Carson replied to this case, he only SUGGESTED that there might have been a reaction. Carson didn't say anything about forgetting or not forgetting the sponge in there.
Out of 15,000 operations over a 36 year career he had 6 complaints filed against him
At least 6 complaints we're aware of. There could be more.
No 6 complaints, that is public record and you can bet if there were more the attack media would already have found them!!! So stop fishing and I see you rely on such official bastions of research as National Enquirer!! Give me a break they have about as much credibility as politico!!! The Enquirer was the first to do a hit piece on Dr. Carson and if you had been paying attention he answered those questions. Or is Sean Hannity, Rush Limbaugh and Mark Levin also hacks according to you!!!
According to who, you? That's your source for the claim of only 6 complaints.
So stop fishing and I see you rely on such official bastions of research as National Enquirer!!
If they say they have documentation, then they have it! They've been sued before, and since that time have broken such hits as John Edwards and his adultery, Jesse Jackson's illegitimate child, O.J's bloody shoes lie, and, maybe not as positively, Rush's oxycotin addiction.
The total number of complaints came out on one of Sean Hannity’s shows.
The total number of complaints being reported on at this time. The original source said 6 was the minimum number.
