World's Ugliest Vehicle Unveiled

From where else- Russia

While the Russians are quickly running out of money -and still can't make a decent toaster- the sky's the limit for the Kremlin when it comes to military stuff. Somehow tho there never seems to be much budget left for styling- instead, they appear to have let their video-game obsessed kids design the thing (while the dog helped).

Yet the ZIL (maker of trucks and Soviet limosKAT is itself a microcosm of Putin's Russia... overbearing/hyper-macho, in-your-face, brutish, unpolished... not a lot of it makes sense to outsiders, yet they absolutely do not care what you think about it (or them):

a little bit better in profile

The KAT weighs 4.5 tons and can carry 10 fully-armed troops. A prototype was built last year with a Cummins 4-cylinder Diesel, but the 'production' model show here has a Russian Kamaz V-8 Diesel with 700hp. The open-wheels seem a good way to avoid interior damage from any mines ran-over, as the blast would be deflected from the floorboards/passenger compartment.

The radical angle of the front sure out to deflect enemy fire well, but not sure what the thinking is behind the bullseye-red front grill... seems as idiotic as WWI French Army uniforms with their easy-to-target red pants. And if you dropped a jar of epoxy off a bridge or out a window onto that windshield it would probably be stopped cold in its tracks...

Reminds one of a homemade Mexican narco-tank

Practically any car made in France in the 60s and 70s is just as ugly. Citroens, Peugots, Renaults ... the Gallic esthetic left much to be desired.

Seems like everyone is ignoring the obvious here, so let me help:

Also, do NOT get behind one of these...the drivers are lame and do not know which pedal increases the gas.

Did no one else notice the "4CH" on the front grill?

Ц С Н = Cyrillic initials for "Special Operations Center" (of the FSB)

I snapped a photo of one of those Fiats in Italy last week. Cause it was just so darn ugly!

I almost bought one of those at the start of my career. I needed wheels and they were cheap.

Then I almost bought a new ‘79 Mustang.

I ended up buying a used ‘69 Camaro.

We have one of those, and a C-Max. The reason they are driven so “cautiously” is because of the absolutely amazing mpg you can get. I have exceeded 100 on rare occasions in the Ford. This in no way diminishes my love for my f-250 or z-3.

Makes me miss my Gremlin

My dad wins - he traded his Gremlin (nicknamed Ralph) in to buy a Pacer.

Apart from a few Randall 401-XRs, the V8 Gremlin did have the 304.

from Wikipedia entry:

Randall 401-XR:

Randall AMC dealership in Mesa, Arizona received AMC's endorsement to build 401 cu in (6.6 L) V8 powered Gremlins. The cars started out as 304 V8 models from the factory and after Randall's modifications would run 13.90 seconds at 103-106 miles per hour (171 km/h) in the quarter mile, for $2,995 (US$15,911 in 2015 dollars).

Known as the Randall 401-XR (X for Gremlin X, R for Randall), a total of twenty cars were built for the street and one for the strip during 1972, 1973, and 1974. Car Craft magazine tested one with some modifications and achieved 115.07 miles per hour (185 km/h) in 12.22 seconds while still remaining a "totally streetable, daily-driver".

I know it’s goofy but I got a soft spot for AMCs-
Dick Teague was a unique, talented stylist that worked wonders with a nothing budget.

The drivetrains weren’t bad at all, I think Jeep was still using the original AMC inline 6 until just recently
