And I didn't mean to make one. Goldwater was a proven, authentic conservative. Trump...I like like what he's saying, but who really knows for sure?
The point I was trying to make was about the smear (or the charge, if you will). Goldwater: Unfit to be POTUS due to judgment issues. Can't be trusted with the nuclear button. On and on it went.
The article is following that same path with Trump. It's up to the reader to decide what's true there. For me personally, I trusted Goldwater's judgment. And I tend to trust Trump's. Neither could have gotten as far as they did by being erratic. But that's just MHO.
