Obama has turned Putin into the world’s most powerful leader
New York Post ^ | September 29, 2015 | Benny Avni

The baton was officially transferred Monday to the world’s new sole superpower — and Vladimir Putin willingly picked it up.

President Obama (remember him?) embraced the ideals espoused by the United Nations’ founders 70 years ago: Diplomacy and “international order” will win over time, while might and force will lose.

Putin, too, appealed to UN laws (as he sees them), but he also used his speech to announce the formation of a “broad international coalition” to fight ISIS in Syria and Iraq. “Similar to the anti-Hitler coalition, it could unite a broad range of forces” to fight “those who, just like the Nazis, sow evil and hatred of humankind,” he said.

And who’d lead this new coalition? Hint: Moscow has always celebrated the Allies’ World War II victory as a Russian-led fete.

Oh, and if anyone wondered which Syrian players the coalition would rely on as allies, Putin made it clear: “No one but President [Bashar al-]Assad’s armed forces and Kurd militia are fighting the Islamic State.”

I hear so many emotional cases made on the subject of Putin, in both directions. I refuse to commit to fact-less passion. Here is what I do think.

The Russians are very bitter about the sanctions and the resulting effect on their economy. I would not be surprised if retaliation of some sort was in the works.

As for the Crimea/Ukraine issue...I do not buy that it is Russia trying to expand as much as it is Russia rightly or wrongly worrying about the expansion of NATO. We have traditionally been enemies. So of course they worry about it on their borders. Ukraine bungled the negotiations badly. Russia sees it as non optional because they see it as a national security issue.

Russia thinks the USA wants them weak and under their thumb. This is more than the ex-super power is willing to bear. Is it true? Does the US want to keep Russia weak? As far as I can tell, that is probably mostly true. Many think Russia has not changed. But the U.S. has changed (for the worse) so why not believe Russia has changed? Of course the threat of falling back into old evil ways is always present. But treating them like dirt and/or like we are a threat to them is not helpful.

As for the Syria thing: I do not like that Russia is chummy with Iran and China — to a lesser degree, Assad. But they have to trade and ally with someone. When the rest of the world places sanctions on them, they must find replacements in old allies.

I do not think Russia is anti-Israel as much as they are anti-America. Israel being our friend (can we still say that?) leaves them on the bad end of things. Russia supports Israel’s enemies. I hate that.

I cannot help but be glad that someone is going to wipe out ISIS. Do I trust the Russia/Iran/Assad coalition? Not particularly, but neither do I trust Obama. Even if we wanted to make a difference, Obama has weakened our military so much that we are better off waiting until it has been rebuilt under another administration. In the meantime, we could be in big trouble.

I reserve the right to completely change my mind on all of the above if evidence should convince me otherwise.

Russia has a long history of rolling back the Muslims.

That is what I read. Let's hope that is all they are doing in Syria.

Putin just kicked the United States out of the Mideast. The Obama regime, putting on a happy face surrendered the Mideast with a smile, a handshake and hardly a whimper.
Meanwhile the Republican majority House of Representatives could not even stop taxpayer funding of the largest abortion mill and human baby parts peddler in the world.

God help us.

Do you think there are any behind the scenes agreements being made that we are not being told about?

He sure did...

Formation of the United Nations:

Alger Hiss (November 11, 1904 – November 15, 1996) was an American lawyer, government official, author, and lecturer. He was involved in the establishment of the United Nations both as a U.S. State Department and U.N. official. Hiss was accused of being a Soviet spy in 1948 and convicted of perjury in connection with this charge in 1950.

On August 3, 1948, Whittaker Chambers, a former Communist Party member, testified under subpoena before the House Committee on Un-American Activities (HUAC) that Hiss had secretly been a Communist while in federal service. Chambers had previously testified under oath that Hiss had never been a Communist or a spy, and Chambers would admit, under oath, to other instances where he had committed perjury under oath. Called before HUAC, Hiss categorically denied the charge. When Chambers repeated his claim on nationwide radio, Hiss filed a defamation lawsuit against him.

During the pretrial discovery process, Chambers produced new evidence indicating that he and Hiss had been involved in espionage, which both men had previously denied under oath to HUAC. A federal grand jury indicted Hiss on two counts of perjury; Chambers admitted to the same offense but, as a cooperating government witness, was never charged. Although Hiss’s indictment stemmed from the alleged espionage, he could not be tried for that crime because the statute of limitations had expired.”

See, that is just the kind of argument that may make sense to some but does not persuade me. I need proof.

True, but nobody cares about facts or history anymore.

Russia has a long history of rolling back the Muslims.

They have a long history of arming and supporting America and Israel's enemies too. Also in murdering or imprisoning people by the millions. Also in deceiving the world. Also in invading and intimidating their neighbors. Also in terminally 'silencing' political opponents, by poison or bullets. Also in allying with islamo-nazi terrorists, such as the world's leading state sponsor of islamic terrorism (Iran), and Syrian dictator Assad, who, among other things, used chemical weapons on civilians.
