I saw a friend post this on Facebook and I thought it was too good to not steal and share.
I like her, no matter what ppl like to spew about her business acumen.
I don’t know the specifics, but from what I understand she was ultimately vindicated for some of her controversial decisions with HP...I should look into that more.
Former Intel Corp. CEO Craig Barrett on Friday defended the decision by GOP Senate candidate Carly Fiorina to lay off thousands of workers and ship jobs overseas as a necessary business move when she was head of Hewlett-Packard Co.
Barrett, who served at Intel the same time Fiorina led HP, told reporters Friday that the bursting of the dot-com bubble forced high-tech businesses to streamline and restructure to remain competitive.
At the time, he said sales orders fell 30 percent, lower-level assembly jobs were migrating to Asia, and Fiorina was in the midst of engineering a merger with Compaq Computer Corp.
When you add those three things up, her actions to move jobs offshore or in fact to lay off people, were absolutely required to keep Hewlett-Packard in business, Barrett said. And she really, I think, had no choice. She had to have this stiff back and to take those actions to preserve the enterprise.
Barrett said Friday it was Fiorina who laid the path for HPs success.
I think history will show or is showing Carly made the right decisions while she was there, he said. She kept HP at the leadership of the printer business, fully expanded their capability in the computer and server and enterprise side of their business, absolutely positioning HP for what it is today.

I'm still going with Cruz, Trump (he may be a Dem in Republican clothing -- but if Rove and the GOPe is against him - I'm 'afore him'), Walker, Carson .. and maybe Jindal - first. But Carly is OK.
No Way! Fiorina might have outshown Santorum and the other Seven Dwarfs last night but that doesn’t undo her horrid history and American job losses at HP that resulted in her firing, doesn’t undo the failed campaign for senate, nor some of her positions. She might make a good affirmative action candidate (female) but we’ve seen with Obama what that leads to.
Thank you for that!
It will be criminal if she doesn’t get to debate with the lead group next time.
See my post #4 above re: Carly’s tenure at HP.
Check out comment #4 by newfreep on that subject.
I think she would be a great pick.
As POTUS...not so sure..
Carlys tenure at HP.
....wellll, Carly’s tenure at HP SUCKED, as evidenced by the free fall of HP stock. She tried to empire build with a poor decision, against the wishes of the founders, to take over and overpay for Compaq and then dropped the Digital gem of R&D when she dashed overseas and cut thousands of US jobs.
She is a great Establishment Internationalist, but not a good exec, leader or strategist. They had to pay her $50MM to go away. A true affirmative action hire...first female disaster!
ymmv
But Carly is OK.
...yeah, she’s so OK that the Clintons have her on stage at their Globullist Foundation events, right next to the Horndog-in-chief Bill! Boy what conservative chops! and she got within 10 points of the worst Senator in history BoxofRocks, ... where is Bachman when we need a female for this forum...
ymmv
She’d make an unspeakably good press secretary: can you imagine her filleting the snarky vermin on MSNBC without even breaking stride?
No, her talk does not match her performance. Beware of this person. She will lead you in the wrong direction.
Senator (and Lt. Col.) Joni Ernst comes to mind as an interesting option. True, she's new to the national scene. But she has a lot of good ideas. Eliminate the IRS, for one.
You know this is really an overreaction.
No one came through the dot com bubble burst unscathed or different from how they were before the bubble burst.
The multiples being paid on tech companies at the time were completely outrageous. This is what happens during bubbles. The deal with Compaq could not have been done without board approval from two companies and stockholder approval as well. To pin this on one CEO and only one CEO is ridiculous.
The tech sector is completely bonkers when it comes to other “mature” industries. There is no such thing in tech. In 1999-2000 people expected the desktop/laptop to be dominant forever. Dial up was going to be how most Americans got their internet or the TimeWarner/AOL merger wouldn’t have been worth the price it was pegged at.
Cell phones as computers would have been laughed out of any company R&D labs. Film was still dominant for picture taking. Scanners were how photos ended up being shared in email. Tablets were considered vaporware. Palm Pilot “shorthand” was how people were going to interact with mobile devices.
I’m sorry, HP is still alive and countless others from 15 years ago are footnotes.
Given the scale of the dot com bubble meltdown and how much technology has evolved and shifted in hindsight she actually was right to do what she did.
Unfortunately, the American public will not invest the time - or have the insight - to accept your argument.
Don’t need revisionist history to remember what happened! Carly is bad news and in my opinion, simply a Republican affirmative action pick because she’s a woman and willing to jump into a cat fight with Clinton. Republicans can do better. Trump/Cruz for example.
