Great ideas!

What amazes me is how few people would even THINK to do this, or even KNOW how to grow a simple food crop. I’ll bet your average Joe doesn’t even know where potatoes come from. (Just came in from digging Red Gold taters. Yum!)

However - I watched a documentary the other day titled, ‘Just Eat It’ and while most can’t produce their own food, they sure can waste it!

I am amazed at food waste. The amount of food my family wastes is so small that it's not noticeable in our compost pile. Bread doesn't get moldy if you eat it when it's fresh. Fruit and vegetables don't rot if you eat them when you buy them. Food doesn't get thrown away at the table if people are expected to take small servings and know they can have seconds later if they are still hungry. I still have enough teenagers that leftovers never go bad.

It is immoral to waste food, or anything else, and my kids have accepted that value without us making a big deal about it. In a tight situation, we would already have good habits. In the same situation, many other people couldn't conserve if they thought they were trying to be frugal.
