Chrysler just beat Ford in dealership sales for the first time ever

It was a milestone month for FCA.

For the first time ever, Chrysler has outsold Ford in US retail sales, reports Reuters.

Retail sales refers to only cars sold directly to consumers, not counting sales of fleet vehicles to corporate customers. Including fleet sales, Ford moved 223,666 cars and Fiat Chrysler group sold 186,864. General Motors, meanwhile, saw sales slip slightly year over year and sold 265,825 cars.

For the industry as a whole, it was another good month as car sales continue to go up. 2015 is expected to see even more growth in car sales, as the market continues its recovery from the historic low it saw in the aftermath of the credit crisis.

I always liked/wanted the last Satellite/GTX body style. The one that looked sorta like an AMX Javelin. Beast of a car. Loved that shape. But any of the GTXs were awesome.

A buddy had one of the bubble backed Barracudas. Wanna say 65/7idh? Stripped drag car that had a 340 in it.

Evil, evil thing.

Machining costs would be very high for the limited number that would be sold.

Everyone wants a toaster. Sits forgotten until it’s needed, then works perfect immediately when used, and returned to the closet without thought when the job is done.

Truth is, the feds aren’t going to allow waivers for safety and pollution control anyway.

Year-to-date, Fiat has sold less than 18,000 units. By contrast, Ram has sold 195,000 units in the same period.

And a foreign car company outselling a domestic car company is good news how?

Better foreign-owned than union/government-owned.

In the case of Chrysler, you have both. Foreign owned with UAW labor. If I’m going to buy a foreign car, it won’t be one made by the UAW.

Umm, all three of the major car companies in this country have UAW contracts. But at GMC, the union sits on the board and has partial control of the company, unlike Ford and Chrysler, due to Mr. Obama’s shenanigans in 2009. You knew that, right?

I said FOREIGN company with UAW labor. In my book, Chrysler is now a foreign car company.

As for GM, for those reasons and more I never want to see the inside of another GM dealership.

That leaves Ford, and I didn't appreciate when they pulled this stunt.

The way big corporations are set up they’re really all foreign at some level, especially the medium and large caps. Hyundai, Nissan and others build cars here without UAW labor.

On this, you read my mind. Another Freeper, I wish I could remember who so I could give credit, suggested that if you want to buy a transplant but don’t the idea of the profits leaving the country, then buy stock in the company. Then, some of the profits go to you.

My dad would never buy a Japanese car, having fought them for three long years, and I understood that, just like he detested coconuts. LOL But this is 2015, not 1965.

The sale to Daimler had nothing to do with TARP or a bailout or that sort of thing, a I recall.

The one on the Right looks just like my 2015 SXT Plus.

The one on the Left is a Hellcat. In my dreams.

As soon as they got the Fiero right, they cancelled it.

My dad was the same way. He was on New Guinea and Luzon with MacArthur's Army Air Corp. He came home on a hospital ship. He would not buy a Japanese car until 1992. Then he bought my mom a Honda Accord. That car finally died last week(too much rust to repair). Actually, the engine is fine. It has 90K miles. It was the epitome of the little old ladies car. My mom drove it to church and the grocery store for 25 years. She is 87 now. It will probably be the last car she will own.

I’ve head the Dart is a rebadged Lancia (which fiat owns). Only had it a week but there does seem to be a fair amount of them on the road. Time will tell.

Dart is based on the Fiat C-Evo platform, shared with some Fiats, Jeeps, Alfa-Romeo and Lancia Delta. It was going to be used by Mini, but don’t know for sure.
