Most of the slaves were captured by competing African tribes, and transferred to the Arabs, Obama’s family being part Arab and Muslim were almost surely involved in the slave trade, as that is how they converted. The Africans who are Muslim were largely converted because then they couldn’t be enslaved themselves, and did business with the slave traders.
