Conspiracy theorists are working overtime to explain why Walmart suddenly closed 5 stores in 3 states this week, laying off 2200 workers. The stores are expected to reopen in 6 months.
The company claims the closings are releated to ongoing and pervasive plumbing problems. But the conspiracy theorists believe it has more to do with workers who took part in the Black Friday strike than with faulty sewers.
Business Insider:
Wal-Mart employees say they were completely blindsided by the news, having been notified only a couple hours before the stores closed at 7 p.m. Monday.
"Everybody just panicked and started crying," Venanzi Luna, a manager at a store in Pico Rivera, California, told CNN Money.
All workers will receive paid leave for two months. After that, full-time workers could become eligible for severance, according to CNN Money. But part-time workers will be on their own.
Local officials and employees have questioned Wal-Mart's reasoning for the closures.
According to ABC News, "no plumbing permits have been pulled in any of the five cities where the stores were suddenly closed for at least six months." The cities where locations were closed include: Brandon, Florida; Pico Rivera, California; Livingston, Texas; Midland, Texas; and Tulsa, Oklahoma.

True. So why come up with such an odd-ball one?
You don’t have to be a hotbed of worker union sympathy to be affected as a company. All you need be is a target of union forces and the bluedog Democrats that support them because of their voting power. Couple that with a sympathetic media and you end up with a situation that a company has to deal with that has nothing to do with conditions, benefits and worker satisfaction. It’s all maneuvering and a national game executed locally.
I’ll leave it to Walmart to decide what is in their own best interests.
Ergo, the plumbing problem is related to providing bathroom facilities for the new use.
As I said, wacky, but anything is possible.
Because they can?
Let the employees go and start their own mega retail center.
Call it ObamaMart.
Some interesting, if wacky, theories in comments section.

We live in wacky times. A decade ago who would have thought that the country would be in the lawless state it is today? We are ruled by an emperor who wields a pen and a phone.
“Odd-ball” is in the eye of the beholder. I can think of many instances where the bleats of Democrats are mere rote repetition of pitiful overly used phrases, histrionics and words not ordinarily seen (I give you “Draconian” and “Dystopian” as examples).
So what?
“Ill leave it to Walmart to decide what is in their own best interests.”
Agree with that, could be just a routine business decision that some media types are trying to make a story out of.
They already have it. It is called the Department of Health and Human Services.
Exactly. If everyone is so concerned about why, perhaps they should take up a collection and pay Walmart’s damned taxes and see how that fits.
Unfortunately that damn business doesn’t make a dime.
It makes what the tax code allows them. They wouldn’t be in business if they really kept losing real money each year.
My apologies. I thought you were talking about Walmart. My bad. Mea culpa, so sorry. You’re right.
How does this factor into the possibility that they would be used as shelters for illegals?
“....

According to wiki walmart employd 2.2 million in 2014. So if my calculations are correct 2200 is 1 tenth of one percent?
Why are all the stores located in the south? Why not include at least one store in the north if you want to test out such prototypes?
At some point, even they will have questions. Easier for them to get rid of the issue with a clear explanation - instead of something that’s generating more questions than answers.
As soon as it comes back online, I'll forward the answer to you.
I am sorry for the workers and layoffs.
Still, Walmart has 5,000 stores across the US and Puerto Rico.
It puts things a bit in perspective.
As company, they owe the public nothing except to the extent that they satisfy their investors. Government can suck it if they are following the law. Democrats can suck it. Unions can suck it. They don’t pay taxes, dividends or invest in actions that make the company strong and profitable.
