After a guest made a disparaging comment about country music, MSNBC host Ari Melber apologized on-air Wednesday afternoon and informed his audience that the network does not condone such remarks.
During a Now w/ Alex Wagner conversation about GOP presidential candidate Ted Cruzs statement that he became a country music fan directly after 9/11, guest Jamilah Lemieux opened up the conversation with this remark: Nothing says Lets go kill some Muslims like country music, fresh from Lynchburg, Virginia. Someone who obviously does not want to be a polarizing candidate, he wants to bring people together, I mean really? Thats absurd.
While co-panelists Joan Walsh and Michael Steele could be heard laughing at Lemieuxs remark, guest-host Melber responded: Well, I mean theres plenty of country music that doesnt have that message, right?
A few segments later, Melber appeared on-air with an apology: We have a programming note. A few minutes ago on this show, a guest made a comment about country music. That comment was not appropriate, and we want to be clear this network does not condone it.

They’re going to take that $#*+ just a little too far one of these days, and boy, are they going to regret it!
Who can forget Johnny and June singing.....
I’m going to Jackson
gonna kill me some muzz...
looka lika beeyotch
There are never any consequences for this far-left racist crap.
I’ve not heard that country music. What country is it from?
There are plenty of jihadi videos extolling the virtues of beheading infidels and stoning women.
Someday we will recognize that a holy war has been declared on us and respond in kind. Someday....
This stuff has got to stop. Just apologizing won’t get it anymore. These folks are going to kill conservatives, literally, if this kind of thing is not stopped.
80 IQ
Exactamundo!
If conservative sites like FR and news outlets like Fox would simply IGNORE what the likes of Melissa Harris Perry said on her show...channels like MSNBC would finally go away.
No one watches them but "we" keep on repeating what "they" want us to. Simply ignore their bullshite and they will dry up and go away. Simple.
I have never ONCE heard a country music song about killing muslims. However. As a guilty pleasure I enjoy gangsta rap from the 90s on occasion. I have heard PLENTY of times about “killin’ niggas’” in rap music. I wonder is Ms. Lemieux has a problem with Ice Cube, Jay Z, Snoop Dogg, Wu Tang Clan, Biggie Smalls, Kanye West, etc.....
Linky no worky.
Or the Muslim "call to prayer".
Niiiice Gibson.
I hate country music, but if that is the message, I am all for it!
Nothing says “let’s kill some crackers and rape some hoes” like Hip Hop and Rap Music.
Looks like they 86’d it.
Country music has been feminized into oblivion. I can’t listen to it. Blake Shelton said that only “old farts and jackasses” can listen to “old” country music, “old” being defined as when country music was sung by real men. Some of the women performers are okay.
I’m sure Jamilah listens to enough country music to be an authority of the genre.
If you really want MSDNC to wither away, get rid of cable/satellite.
No apology necessary.
