I tend to agree. As a private university, they of course have the right to make these events mandatory. But, if they are mandatory, they should not be opening them up to be used as political rallies.

Actually, as a student, I’d think it kind of cool to get a two-fer: credit for a meeting like this and a Presidential candidacy announcement.
