Non-engineers know that hydrogen is the way to go.

Why are engineers so stupid?

Engineers have been using hydrogen for years. What do you think was used in the upper stages of the Saturn V?

The issue is making it safe for morons in cars to use.

Because engineers are restricted to the world of reality unlike amateurs and dreamers who can operate on the higher plane of fantasy where they can have their choice of electricity, hydrogen or pixie dust as "fuels."

Engineers know that to get hydrogen it takes more energy to recover it from a compound than the energy obtained from recombining it with oxygen. Unlike carbon-stabilized hydrogen in fossil fuels, hydrogen is not found floating around in the free state.
