Looking for a place with moderate climate, stable government, low crime rate, predominantly English speaking and is not anti-gun .Where someone on a fixed lower income can afford to not have to live like a rat.

All 3 available in Phoenix/Scottsdale, IIRC - maybe 90 minutes away. I know you posted your response with a smilie but wanted to get the info out there for those who may have taken it seriously.
Mississippi became my home in ‘86 - no regrets and they don’t tax retirement income.
Yup, that area is very nice. Luv Destin.
” In some very odd way, you have more freedom living in Nicaragua than you do in the US.”
Glad you mentioned this - absolutely true - as well as the reason you gave.
AND, “If you would like to help out, theres lots of opportunities to do a lot of good, and see the results immediately and personally.” as well.
We’ve worked with orphans & street kids (on our own) as well as those who live/work in Chureca - the Managua city dump. You can’t put a dent in the problem, but you can touch a few individual lives. We need to be careful though that what we do isn’t to feel good about ourselves and our efforts, but to really help. A good book called “When Helping Hurts” nails the fact that many “mission trips” and attempts at good works really end up hurting people you want to help - but can make you feel good about yourself.
Wrong motive.
We’ve learned to not create an expectancy or dependency in the poor there. Can be an individual duplication of what government has done here with blacks.....and individuals with bears.......the poor Nica’s see Americans and they can’t help but see $$$$$........
I’ve heard good things about coastal Delaware.
Missouri Ozarks.
Low taxes, low cost of living. Deer, turkey and year round fishing.
Shoot your gun. Did I mention low taxes ?
In that case move to Sandy Eggo or consider maintaining two homes.

East Tennessee.
Consider NW Florida. Sometimes referred to as the “Redneck Riviera”, it’s a haven for snow birds and hosts a large retired population, mostly military. There are opportunities for volunteering and seasonal jobs in the service industry, both enabling you to meet new people on a regular basis. Number 1 source of income in Fort Walton Beach, FL area: Eglin Air Force Base / Hurlburt Field; Number 2 source of income: tourism.
Niceville is nice.
Between I-10 and the Alabama state line is referred to as “Lower Alabama”.
If you need someplace with a view, consider Lakewood, FL which is near Britton Hill, the highest point in FL.
I’ve visited Costa Rica, the iron bars capital of the world (my designation).
Virtually every house in a village or neighborhood is surrounded by cinder block walls topped with broken glass. Inside the walls, every opening in the house is locked behind iron bars. I’ve seen carports inside these walls completely encased in iron bars, plus all the windows & doors. I’ve seen houses that were clearly worth less than the wrought iron & concrete surrounding them.
Obviously, there is a serious property theft problem in CR.
I would imagine that an old, “rich”, non-Spanish speaking foreign couple living in a remote area would be an easy target for thugs & cause some resentment from the dirt poor locals.
I will add that the CR roads are horrible, kidney jarring, wreck producing nightmares. 4WD vehicles are a requirement in the rainy season, nearly so in the dry season. Streets in small towns & villages are giant, continuous potholes interspersed with flat dirt road that turn into streams when it rains. Many bridges outside San Jose are one-way, leaving you to queue up on either side to wait to cross. Forget the brand new Suburban; an old but reliable Range Rover is far less likely to be stolen.
Wherever you decide to go, visit there several times before the move, with an eye on living conditions, not on tourist venues. With so much at stake, renting a home for a while before buying might be smart.
Tucson.
Great idea. With the internet they could also offer a world wide zero house percentage bit coin lottery, tax free if winners move there to claim it. They'd have mostly happy rich people immigrating there, the reverse of our Land of the Free Stuff.
To all of you who kindly offered suggestions to me, thank you!
I am going to do a lot of research this weekend, thanks to your recommendations. It makes me feel hopeful.
I was born and raised in rural Walton County, FL. I count DeFuniak Springs as my home town tho we lived around 5 miles SW.
I think any area along I-10 and North to the Alabama line and the small towns along Hwy. 90 are perfect. You are close enough to the beaches to visit whenever you want and the real estate is far more reasonable.
Also the area is more conservative than Mississippi. Florida’s First Congressional District has been called the most conservative in the nation.
I’d try to leave myself, but I don’t think I could make it out alive. Especially since I lost all my guns in the last tornado.
Thanks for your comment, Reeses.
I suspect strongly, though, that nothing would be necessary to encourage productive people to move there, open businesses, etc., other than:
- rule of law
- limited government (subset of law)
- respect for property rights (subset of rule of law)
- very limited government
- very low taxes (subset of everything above)
It’s not that this hasn’t been tried before. It’s more like the US used to be and what we’re going away from now.
If one of these little countries does this (or, more accurately, establishes a “zone” where this is the case and everyone believed it were permanent), it would change the world, literally.
This may be the one best way to fight leftism here: give an example somewhere else of what life in a conservative environment is like.
Bonus question for everyone: what do you predict would be the unemployment rate in this zone?
It would be limited to the number of people who CHOOSE to remain unemployed and feed off of everyone else's productivity in that kind of environment. Probably less than 1%, provided that private charity would remain a primary source of relief for the truly unfortunate without the interference of government attempting to assume that role as a form of power brokering.
We've been getting earthquakes in North Texas. Enviros say it's due to fracking, seismologists found a 3-5 mile fault that's been there for millions of years.
If you are going to leave the US then why do we care where you go? If you don’t want to be a fellow countryman then get lost for all we care.
