I can’t tell which play you’re referencing with the other possession. But from what you’re saying it’s the difference between a “shift” and loss of contact.

Dez completely lost all contact with the ball for an instant. That’s the big reason it’s an incomplete pass, the ball didn’t just hit the ground, it didn’t just shift in his hand, it popped OUT. If the Packer in question only had the ball shift that’s not loss of contact, though often shift is considered loss of control and therefore incomplete, it’s not always. Loss of contact is always considered loss of control, Dez loss contact, no catch.
