On the rare occasion I find myself in agreement with President Obama, I get nervous.
It just feels like a setup. Like someone's going to pull the rug out from under me at any moment.
But right now, I have to admit, I was very pleased to hear the news that the U.S. and Cuba are moving to normalize relations.

I am not saying sanctions work, but I don't see a compelling reason to lift them. Appeasement doesn't work and sanctions don't, what is your solution?

Jeff Siegel, writer of the posted article, is way off the wall himself in ripping into Sen. Marco Rubio in this vicious manner. What Siegel never mentions in his piece is the suffering and oppression that Rubio's own family experienced in Cuba at the hands of the Castro regime, a predicament which caused his parents and many other decent Cuban people to escape Cuba by coming to the US under dire circumstances. Rubio's hatred of the Castro regime is well-founded: it's in his DNA, as is his sharp opposition to Obama's new moves vis-à-vis Cuba. Yet Siegel callously neglects this history as if it didn't happen.

what is your solution? Conversion.

Ill bet before yesterday you hadnt thought about Cuba since 5th grade. How much are you willing to lose?
90% of my family is in Jamaica. I have been to Cuba. Have you?
You couldn't have made a more uninformed statement. Thanks again for the laughs.

While I don’t trust Rubio on immigration issues, I agree with him 100% on Cuba.
We handed over terrorists and got nothing in return but a guy who was likely headed for release anyway.

Of course Rubios’s family experienced oppression as did Ted Cruz’s family and the families of many of my Cuban friends in Miami. Its time to take hold of Cuba and use our money and influence to change them. The Castros will be dead soon this is the perfect opportunity to seduce Cuba into the Crony Capitalism we all live under.
Raise your hand if you even thought about Cuba in the past 10 years until Obama announced this policy change. Raise your hand if you even wasted a moment giving a chit about this little Island in the Carribean that you fly over on your way to Jamaica? Raise your hand if you even knew we have had a Diplomatic Mission in downtown Havana for years. I mean come on its not that big of a deal.

Which certainly mystifies me as to why Rubio wants to bring in tens of millions who are certain to vote in Castro like policies.

beats the heck out of the nebulous "conversion".
Come up with a 2,3,5, 10 point specific plan and then we can talk. You want to replace a concrete action than you need to have a concrete plan to replace it with.

I have flown over Cuba on my way to Jamaica. My BIL is with the State Dept. He goes to the DM there occasionally. Believe me I am not uniformed about Cuba by any means.
In a year or two Trump will down there building a casino and hotel and the economy will pick up and the average person in Cuba will be much better off. Its time for the change. As you said your family is in Jamaica not Cuba.

You also keep forgetting the most important reason to oppose this. When was the last time Obozo was ever right about either foreign policy or economics?

Libertarians don’t have any guts. They’d rather debate issues than face them squarely on.
Does anyone know who the writer Siegel is? There was one in the past who was a red so I want to know if this is a different one.

I said my family was in Jamaica to explain to you how it was I came to be in Cuba. I was last there in 2009. It was depressing. Liberals blame the poverty and strife on America. Conservatives blame the communist dictatorship. One thing is certain, as long as a communist dictator runs the country there will not be change.

Remember when Assistant AG Eric Holder (along with AG Janet Reno) sent little Elian back to Cuba?
Does this new policy of Obama suggest Elian can now "be free" to come back to Florida to be with his family?
