I never thought I'd be an open carry advocate.
However, I'm a firm believer in working within the American political system in order to change the status quo. If the 2nd Amendment is cherished by millions of Americans, then why not use it to further certain liberal ideals? Protecting African-American lives and alleviating tensions between the black community and law enforcement should be a top priority of all Americans and especially Congress, however this is not the case. It speaks volumes that African-Americans vote over 90% Democrat during national elections, yet our future nominee in 2016 still hasn't addressed an issue the whole nation is talking about; even after Darren Wilson's acquittal and the flames that engulfed Ferguson.
With all our advancements as a nation, there's still a correlation between today and 1895; the year Ida B. Wells wrote The Red Record. We live in a surreal time period where the deaths of unarmed black males still take place, even though we have a black president and African-Americans today possess more rights than at any other point in U.S. history. While rioting by a very small percentage of protestors does a disservice to the memory of Michael Brown and the cause of saving black lives or preventing future Fergusons, there are legal and more effective ways to solve our nation's moral conundrum pertaining to racial profiling, police brutality, and issues related to the deaths of unarmed citizens.

I’d like to see all law-abiding Americans carry either open of concealed. This writer, despite his racist intent, will get no objection from me.
I am all for any law abiding citizen to open or conceal carry a gun. A slight problem: The 2nd Amendment currently ends at the border of heavily Black populated, even Black majority cities, such as Washington, DC.
Maybe we can all unite behind gaining universal acceptance and respect for the 2nd Amendment?
I say make open carry for all citizens.
Well armed society is a polite society.
>> then why not use it to further certain liberal ideals?
What a #ing asshat. This POS is thoroughly devoid of the sense of liberty and equity.
Detroit
Chiacgo
New Orleans
Yeap - so called black leaders really care about the state of blacks in poverty....
But these two....well, you the story...living large on exploiting the black communities...
>>deaths of unarmed black males
Drink!
Man, I don’t need to be starting early on a Monday.
This guy is just yet another long-winded idiot without much acquaintance with the facts. And the facts are that more than 15 blacks are murdered a day by other blacks. The number killed by white police officers is down in the noise compared to that. And the vast majority of those aren’t murders, as in the Michael Brown case.
(We live in a surreal time period where the deaths of unarmed black males still take place,) ..... though mostly at the hands of armed black males..
It’s pretty easy to envision Marting and Brown shooting each other.

I reject the premise that open carry will stop future deaths of blacks and more Fergusons....
Better training of police, more community pressure from responsible black leaders, no more excuses for criminal behavior etc...
open carry for everyone is a very bad idea...many people are not responsible enough to walk around with a open carry...
conceal and carry is fine as long as you are trained....
>>conceal and carry is fine as long as you are trained....
Please define “trained”.
“Trained” as in taking the C&C class by a certified NRA instructor for your permit...
I’m having trouble finding the ‘trained’ bit in the 2nd.
Care to point it out?
Men or women should carry if they feel they are directly at risk for their personal safety. Color has nothing to do with a God given right of self defense.
I agree.
You think it’s a grand idea to have every gangbanger and knuckle dragger allowed to carry open with no training...by all means go for it...
I am completely pro 2nd amendment ...but also live in reality...
so you think weapons should be treated like candy in a candy store...no training on responsible use of a weapon...?
We ask people to pass a test to drive a car...it’s reasonable to ask people to pass a test to carry a weapon...
Perhaps the part that states “well regulated”?
Last time I checked there were no restrictions on black men open carrying in states that allow it.
Too bad so many of them are convicted felons and can’t legally own a firearm. LOL.
That was the original premise of the NRA. Black folk should arm themselves.
