I waver between his beng an idiot, magically trapped in the early 1970s, and malevolent. On the whole, I’m coming down in the side of idiot. He’s doing a remake of “Being There” that involves the entire Catholic Church. That is, people think every weird gesture or remark of his is incredibly profound, simply because he’s so out to lunch they can’t even comprehend the possibility.

How could a person of his religious stature not know what a competitive religion like Islam is all about?
If he was just an average Infidel I would think he is just naive, and uniformed on Islam.
But his top position in a religious organization makes me think stupid is a better way to describe him. - Tom
