How come mailmen and meter readers can deal with dogs, but 'tough' police cannot?

Many that have a problem with DOG KILLING...

have no problem with the murder of babies..
OR not enough of a problem to generate outrage..

could be a spiritual thing.. or some kind of autism..
They relate to dogs BUT NOT babies..

When asked if the Buffalo police have undergone any special training in regards to dealing with dogs, or the handling of dogs in a non-lethal manner, Chief Richards said, “It has not come to that point in Buffalo that we’ve implemented any of those other techniques.”

Not only are the police not trained to deal with dogs, the departments don't really care how many dogs they shoot. As amply evidenced by Chief Richards' idiot remarks.

Hell's Bells, they smash down doors for piddly shit warrants and anonymous tips, hit the wrong houses, destroy property shoot and injure non combative (& sometimes innocent) civilians. Why should they care about dogs?

Before anyone goes on about the relative value of a dog's life to a human's, they should consider that the dog issue is representative of a MUCH larger mind set and actions by police.

62% of warrants are for drugs? WTH? There's no real crime out there?

The way to solve this problem is to cheat.

The dog killing officer hides behind his anonymity. However, other officers have likely done reprehensible things as well, and their names are most likely out there.

So pick a bad officer, one who has abused people and gotten away with it, and put out that *he* is the dog killer. Dog lovers from around the world will turn on him, and make his life a burden and a misery. Were he a normal officer, this would be unfair and bad. But he is already a bad officer, so deserves little sympathy.

Yet he and his department will see the strength of the dog lovers, and their denials that he is the dog killer will be worthless. His career will likely be over.

However, things will not be all well and good for the real dog killer. Because of him, another officer, albeit a bad one, will be ruined. This will not ingratiate him to the other police, in fact, it could hit him hard.

And none of them are going to appreciate, or tolerate, his killing any more dogs.

So the bottom line will be that one, perhaps two bad police officers will lose their jobs, and the police officers in that department are going to think twice before casually committing puppycide again.

I have two big dogs, one 85 lb. and the other, 110 lb. Neither has ever threatened any delivery person or trades person who’s come by. They do bark when people come by; that’s just being dogs.

Even though the cops are usually in the right in many minority community confrontations, it looks like there are excessive dog shootings in many places. Seems to me a good start on better minority community relations would be for cops to be required to use less lethal methods of canine control.

“Certainly, no officer takes any satisfaction in having to dispatch a dog.”

...

Because they can refuse service to houses with aggressive dogs. The police usually can’t.

Buffalo Police Chief of Detectives Dennis Richards said in an interview with WGRZ. “Certainly, no officer takes any satisfaction in having to dispatch a dog.”

You LIE! That's a steaming pile of gourmet grade, uncured bull manure and we all know it.

Having read the comments on social media, I think more than a few get off on it, just like they do warring on drugs and the "civilians" who get in their way, just like they do dressing up and playing with their cool GuvCo provided toys.

If they didn't enjoy their war, we'd have less of it and less of its collateral damage and fewer of its many casualties in all their forms.

With what is about to happen tomorrow night, here you are barking about some stupid dogs being shot. You and this motley crew of goof balls ought to start your own site called “We hate cops because we are stupid”.

I’ve had a few encounters with police officers while with my dog, from riding in a helicopter with Sam sitting between myself and the OPP officer, to getting an hour long ride in a police car with Sam in the back seat and once getting selected for a random safety check while Sam was with me and when the officers doing the checking found out who Sam was they said no way they were going to find anything wrong with my vehicle and sent me on my way with handshakes and smiles. All the encounters between police and my dog have been very positive....

...but, my worse nightmare is running into a power tripping, trigger happy a-hole with a badge who looks at my dog and sees a threat.

“Certainly, no officer takes any satisfaction in having to dispatch a dog.”

That isn’t a certainty at all, and the fact that the chief assumes it would be is disappointing.

Until the people who foot the bills for police departments start questioning the validity of SWAT teams, cop brutality will get worse. They operate without constitutional authority, usually without necessity, and without sufficient oversight. SWAT is a game police play, and our animals are just one of the victims of that game.

As a former 'tough' Police Officer. I never shot a dog in 10 years of service. Of course I wasn't scared of dogs no matter their size as I liked them too much.

I was chased to the top of my car one night by a St. Bernard. I waited till he got bored and my partner showed up to block him so I could finish the call.

Of the three Depts. I worked for in that time period. No Officers that I worked with had shot any dogs either.
Must be a new breed of Officers ;(

Ed

ps; I had to put down my own dog when I was a kid. I guess that is why I don't care for shooting them.
