There's a meme that's been going strong on Reddit's Florida page all summer. It shows Rick Scott and Charlie Crist side-by-side with the caption "Giant Douche Versus Turd Sandwich." That South Park reference seemed to resonate especially in Democrat-rich South Florida. As Riptide noted yesterday, local Facebook feeds and Twitter updates were rich with cynical "Why bother?" messages because of the matchup.
Sure enough, Miami-Dade had the worst turnout in Florida yesterday, with Broward not far behind. In a razor-tight election, the result of that voter apathy in those left-leaning bastions became clear by around 10:30 last night: Gov. Rick Scott had won. Congrats, South Florida apathy!
Look, if you were truly backing Governor Scott -- despite the laundry list of failures as state executive, from openly mocking Sunshine Laws to handing a comically conflict-of-interest-tainted slow-train contract to a company with ties to his chief of staff after turning down federal funds for a real high-speed rail system -- hey, that's your choice.
A couple hundred thousand people statewide also found a constructive way to critique the matchup by casting a ballot for Libertarian Adrian Wyllie. Also a totally defensible choice.
It's the tens of thousands of voters in South Florida who can't stand Scott but decided that not voting at all was a way to lodge a protest against Florida's Democrats running out an orange retread like Crist that are the truly frustrating constituency in this race.

Booo freakin hooo! [flips bird]
I think the truth is that the fraudulent voters that vote Democrat didn’t vote in this election. If the Republicans in Congress and the Senate do their job they can keep the fraud out in the next election too.
The fact that Crist even came close is scary.
Its entirely possible that a lot of democrats voted republican this time but that’s just too horrible for the liberals to contemplate.
I know of a couple of first time GOP voters myself.
Agreed. It’s difficult for them to get the vote factories going in the hood during the less popular mid-terms. Not only that, but it would be more noticeable too.
Their comments made me laugh. Infantile babble as usual. Stupid too. Voting for orange boy is a vote for a backstabber. Old orange boy is running out of political partys.
Obama said make no mistake, his policies were on the ballot.
People voted accordingly...
How in the hell does a newspaper actually allow a headline like that to actually be printed without promptly folding their operations within 24 hours?
It is so obvious that this “we only lost because people didnt vote” meme is going to be the opium that the left is going to snort over the next few weeks to convince them that this was all a fluke.
Just what I thought.
Someone that looks straight out of Gawker Media. Punk SJW blogger culture at it’s finest
Frankly, I don't want the voters who don't know the issues voting anyway. I have never worshipped at the idol of full voter participation, unless everyone is voting with reasonable preparation.
Yep.
Typical dweeb.
But Obama said he knows how the 2/3 that did not show up feels. Do you think they were be called on the carpet the way dem voters were in that NY district that were sent letter, warning them that they knew about their inactivity from the past, and they will be confronted with their voting record for the midterms.

LOLOLOLOL
How do they know they weren’t staying home to punish the Rinos?
It’s all due to Democrat voter suppression. The Democrats and their policies were so bad they suppressed the vote. What else can we say. Democrats lost the vote of a lot of white folks. I guess they forgot about that demographic. And the “first black president” suppressed the black vote. Problem solved. I love it when lefty heads explode!
