My family and I are heading to Stevens Point on the ninth, and will be there until the 13th.
(Yes, I've checked all of the gun laws between Denver and there)
I just wanted to ask if there was anything worth checking out in that area.
I already found the gun shop (Heavy Metal Firearms), and was wondering if there was anything else.
I really want to head over to Milwaukee to thank Sheriff Clarke and shake his hand, but don't think I'll have the time.
I will be bringing LOTS of hand sanitizer!
Thanks in advance.
Ping!
Always do a brewery tour in Wisconsin (provided you like beer and are not in fact a teetotaler) - they are a blast. I live here and I wouldn’t miss going at least once a year to any number of breweries. Point Beer in Steven’s Point would be a tour that you could get into with a reservation:
Have fun! The other thing we do is fish. Rent a guide and catch some sport fish...
I'm not sure what you're looking to do, but there's not a whole lot in that area. Some nice hiking along the Wisconsin River, and in the Schmeeckle Reserve.
You might want to check out the Wisconsin Tourism site to see if there are any events in the area.
It's about 2 1/2 hours to Milwaukee (I know the drive very well!), and a "world away" from central Wisconsin.
The people in that area are very friendly! Enjoy!!
Awesome. I love Wisconsin beers.
I have a buddy from work (I work at Coors) who went there to see family earlier this year. I have him about $80 bucks so he could bring me back some New Glarus products. Quite yummy!
I’ll have to check out your recommendation, too. Thanks a bunch.
Excellent! Thank you.
I’m an agnostic yet I think you would enjoy the Rudolph Grotto. My grandmother took me there as a kid and I visited it a half century later. It’s cool. I’m sure it’s far less than an hour driving time from Stevens Point.

For sight seeing you can go North on interstate 39 which turns into 51 as you head into Northern Wisconsin. I personally feel that West/Central Wisconsin is the best that the state has to offer.
It’s a little ways off but Door County is really a beautiful place. It’s a little early for the color season, but there should be plenty to do.
That looks pretty sweet. Thank you.
Rib Mountain State Park in Wausau (about 35 minutes north) is quite cool. Very scenic and lots of trails.

Wildwood Zoo in Marshfield (about another 35 minutes away) is nice. Don’t expect it to be huge - but it is well maintained and likable.

And yes, a tour of Point Brewery would be in order!
New Glarus Oktoberfest is on the shelves right now - along with Sprecher and Leinie’s and... I love this time of year!
Oh, and the fall colors are magnificent right now too.
The weather during your stay is forecast to be idyllic and the fall colors are at their peak. Enjoy your stay.
Head over to the “Point”brewery. If your inclined to imbibe.
They’ve got some decent beer and a bit of history included
If nothing else, don’t even get close to Ill-a-noise. They may have some sort of tractor beam in the chit-town vicinity to drag your gun totin’ butt across the line. Have a safe trip.
P.S. Avoid Ferguson.
Cheese, some of the best cheese in the world is made in Wisconsin.
I’ve just brewed my first batch of Oktoberfest. Yum!
New Glarus is run by a buncha libs/socialist democrats. Just saying.
Yikes! That’s a little too far for the amount of time that we’ll be there.
(Personally, I wish I could skip the wedding thing and go exploring)
My youngest Son is a big fan of the Mystery Science Theater 3000 version of The Giant Spider Invasion which was filmed north of where we’ll be staying. I’m hoping to take him around there to see those places.
Seriously. When someone says, “PAAACKERS!” he’s not thinking foorball. He’s thinking of the line from the movie: “Wait a minute! We can’t hunt! We’re not drunk enough yet!!”
Yeah. My kids are weird.
Just like their Daddy.
Point Brewery is on the list. Looking forward to it.
Thanks.
We’ll be cutting through Iowa and Nebraska -avoiding Illinois at all costs.
On the plus side, I’ll be able to get more 30-round AR mags! YAYS!!
Also check out O’so Brewing Company in Plover and Central Waters Brewery in Amherst. Two mighty fine locally crafted beers. There’s also the Great Northern Distillery in Plover. They distill all their spirits on site using locally grown ingredients.
Not much else to do here besides drink and eat. LOL
