LOL. Except for 1980, of course.
But it was always close. You could make an A.L. All-Star team using just players from the Yankees and Royals in those days, and it would be a damn good team.
One of my greatest memories as a kid was watching the clinching Game 4 of the 1978 ALCS at Yankee Stadium. The Yankees won 2-1 behind a pitching gem by Ron Guidry. Graig Nettles and Roy White hit solo home runs. And my Dad got kind of mad at me at the end of the game when I told him I wanted to storm the field with the rest of the fans around us who were pouring out of the stands. LOL.
