Video surfaced a few days ago of Victoria Osteen, wife of famed pastor Joel Osteen, saying some rather heretical things to the congregation at Lakewood Church.
Sidebar: Im only one sentence into this post and already Ive been forced to use sarcastic quotes three times. For simplicitys sake, I will, from here on out, drop the quotes with the understanding that the quotes are implied. Joel Osteen is only a pastor because anyone can call themselves a pastor these days, and his church is only a church because anything can call itself a church these days. I happen to be of the old fashioned school of thought that believes a pastor should be, in some ways, distinguishable from Tony Robbins or Oprah, and a church should be, in some ways, distinguishable from a basketball arena on game day. Im not saying that all churches need to be adorned with stained glass windows and incense (although Im a fan of both), but I am saying that maybe all churches should have, like, a cross or something somewhere, maybe. God forbid a house of worship be arranged in such a way as to make it clear that we are specifically worshipping Jesus Christ and not the smiley fellow on stage giving the vaguely spiritual pep talk.
In the clip, Mrs. Osteen implores the audience to realize that when we obey God, were not doing it for God
were doing it for ourselves. As her proud husband nods approvingly, Osteen continues. Do good for your own self. Do it because God wants you to be happy. When you come to church, when you worship Him, youre not doing it for God, really youre doing it for yourself, because thats what makes God happy. Amen?

Amen to your AMEN.
Another one of those false prophets that must come to pass
Pretend that this is going on in a church or something... With closed doors, and no electricity or something like that. But you can imagine a poor church mouse if you like.
BOTTOM LINE: You’re not allowed to say much of anything or debate. You can only agree!
Mrs Osteen appears to be unaware of the opening line to Rick Warren’s Purpose Driven Life: It’s not about you, it’s about God.
It would be nice if folks just preached the real Gospel of Jesus Christ.
A happy happy happy God vs an angry judgemental God is kind of a refreshing thought but what makes you happy is not necessarily what what makes him happy. Just do your own thing and drop something in the plate doesn’t work on any moral level for me.
Rick is even more dangerous than Joel. Joel isn’t educated and he isn’t all that smart. It’s obvious to anyone with any spiritual discernment at all that Joel is a buffoon. I weep for those fooled by Joel. In contrast, Rick is educated, brilliant, and wily. Rick knows how to say what his particular audience wants to hear. One minute he’s quoting Jonathan Edwards to Calvinists, the next he’s reworked his purpose driven show for Jews and Muslims. He’s a total chameleon, a dangerous chameleon who cannot be trusted.
It’s most important to God that we are happy? Wow, that is some really deep stuff here!
Both views are idiotic. God loves us, but gives us free will. He is just. Nowadays, true justice is so opposite of this world that it is hard to recognize and understand.
He’s another word faith prosperity grafter, a man focused on building your best life now. Danger!!
“Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.”
Compare those words of Christ to the central message of Kenneth Copeland, Joel Osteen, Creflo Dollar, Mike Murdoch, or any other prosperity preacher. Again-—>DANGER!
Yes, Warren is shifty, but I couldn’t resist throwing Warren’s line in Mrs Osteen’s face, considering they may be great friends in real life.
Salvation is by free grace, not free will. The Bible is very clear. Ephesians 2:8-9
Give old Charles Spurgeon a listen...

That's ironic, coming from Rick!
You scored as Rick Warren. Author of The Purpose-Driven Life. Creator of the P.E.A.C.E. plan. CFR member. Rupert Murdoch's personal pastor. Syrian Ambassador. NutriSystem lifetime member. Fashion disaster.

but does JO pretend its a Mass?.no...its just a preaching forum, period...do I wish I saw crosses everywhere?...sure...but so what...
If Osteen can bring people to gather and talk about Jesus and doing good then I find no problem with it....
what his wife said is true....if we want to be happy and peaceful on this earth we must do God's will....
I think some preachers are just jealous....
ping to post #16
The only Heretic that concerns me is Obama.
People voluntarily walk into that so called Church.
We, on the other hand, are gifted with Obama’s proclamations every day whether we like it or not.
That guy gives me the creeps.
