Last week, former St. Louis Police Chief Ed Delmore addressed an Open Letter to Captain Ron Johnson, Missouri Governor Jay Nixons choice to direct all law enforcement operations in Ferguson after the shooting death of Michael Brown. Chief Delmore revealed that he is not a fan of what another officer described as Capt. Johnsons hug a looter attempts to bring criminals under control by directing St. Louis County Police to remain uninvolved on the night the rioting and looting began again.
The essence of Delmores criticism, however, is directed at Capt. Johnsons claim that there was no reason to release the video of Brown manhandling the comparatively pint-sized owner of the convenience store from which he and a friend had stolen cigars. According to Johnson, the reported theft and the killing [were] entirely different events.
But its in his response to this entirely different events claim that Delmore may have revealed the reason Officer Darren Wilson had to pull the trigger on Brown a short time later.
The fact that Brown knew he had just committed a robbery before he was stopped by Officer Wilson speaks to Browns mindset, wrote Delmore. And Captain, the mindset of a person being stopped by a police officer means everything, and you know it.
If Captain Johnson wanted to get schooled he came to the right window. For Chief Delmore made it clear that the release of a video is unimportant when compared with the mindset of a criminal who has foolishly confronted a cop just moments after the crime. Johnson was concerned with optics, Delmore with what a frightened and potentially desperate thug might attempt...

The only reason I can think of as to why Brown reacted as he did with the intent of severely harming s cop over a traffic ticket and what probably would have been a suspended sentence over a minor theft was because he was in a state of paranoia from chooming.
Hmmm. I know. He was pre-occupied thinking about going to college and didn’t even realize he’d stolen some swisher sweets, roughed up the clerk, walked in the middle of the street disrupting traffic and didn’t even know it was law enforcement that confronted him. Either that or he was thinking about an upcoming choir practice. There, sound right? It could be incorporated in to the narrative.
Duh!!!
Putting that clown Johnson in charge was the biggest mistake of all. Obama couldn’t have done a worse job.
A couple of fleeing bank robbers assumed it was a roadblock set up to catch them and the CHP guys never saw it coming.
He was 18....odds are he’s had run ins before, and thought his status as an adult could get him in ‘real trouble’ for the robbery.
My guess is he wasn’t worried about anything but wasn’t going to let “the Man” diss him.
He was white and a cop, therefor he was the enemy.
Since I don't do drugs I'm a little in the dark concerning this statement. The last time I looked, weed was supposed to make to sleepy and hungry and feeling good.
Where did this paranoia come from? What am I missing here?
"Be not overmuch wicked, and be thou not foolish; for why shouldest thou die before thy time?" (Proverbs 7:17)
Pot will not turn a peaceful man violent but it will blunt the inhibitions of an already violent person. It appears Brown was a giant and a thug who, as we saw on video, was quick to assualt those who challenged him. Pot did not create this attitude but it certainly could cloud his judgement when deciding whether or not to charge a cop.
Intoxication of any sort simply magnifies the worst characteristics of any person.
Intoxication is no one’s friend.
Marijuana is famous for making people paranoid. Not as much as a stimulant drug, but it still does.
Was Brown high on something?
I thought they said he had POT in his blood.
I heard some rumors that in that neighborhood, the pot was sometimes laced with PCP to give it an extra kick. Don't know if the rumors are true. But, PCP is connected with lots of psychotic breaks.
I suspect he was doing more than weed as the cigars are used as a drug delivery system for more than just weed.....
The officer apparently also thought he was on something for the way he was charging him....if he was on weed alone he wouldn’t be charging....They still have not released a toxicology report which is quite interesting.
At any rate Brown knew he had just robbed and roughed up a store owner.....what he “assumed” was the officer knew that. Thus a high anxiety would have also been active and strong.
No matter how the media and family want to make Brown look...he was clearly another thug, accustomed to bullying people and likely had other incidents unreported.
Worth mentioning that Chief Delmore uses VERY harsh language in the letter, multiple times. Those discussing it are unduly watering down the tone.
