Col. Rob Maness Qualifies for Ballot, Calls on LA Secretary of State to Investigate Sen. Mary Landrieu’s Residency Qualifications.... Baton Rouge, LA - This morning, while officially qualifying for the November ballot, Col. Rob Maness (R-Louisiana) today delivered in-person, a letter to Louisiana Secretary of State Tom Schedler, calling on him to open an investigation examining the validity of Sen. Mary Landrieu's (D-LA) residency status.

"It appears that there are significant inconsistencies that warrant an investigation regarding the residency status of one of the candidates who has filed for United States Senate," Maness' letter says. "On Wednesday, August 20, 2014, U.S. Senator Mary Loretta Landrieu filed for reelection listing the address 4301 S. Prieur St., New Orleans, LA 70125 as her 'domicile address.' However, representations by Sen. Landrieu, her campaign, and other associates - both in the press and in official state, parish and federal documents - reveal that representation to be untrue."

Doubtful. They tried the same thing against Roberts in Kansas and it went nowhere.

It likely won’t go anywhere but it’s good to see someone in the race has some fight.

Doesn’t she have a house in Louisiana? This seems odd.

But did they try it with the election board, or just with the public?

Are they required to live in the state? Maybe we need to get that defined as to how many days they must be present there.

Although I grant there is a bit of a catch-22 here, as they are also required to be in DC for certain set periods.

And no, I don’t think parents should necessarily be separated from their children for long periods and yes I want parents serving in congress.

They are required to be an inhabitant, which in most states is determined if you are registered to vote in the state. She's not the only Senator who spends virtually no time in their home state. Roberts doesn't. Rockefeller in West Virginia doesn't. I'm sure there are a bunch of others as well.

Senator Landrieu lives in the National Capitol Region as does Senator Pat Roberts. Neither has a home in the state that they represent, although both own property in their respective state. The Republicans in Kansas did not care that their Senator has not lived in Kansas for 40 years, and the Democrats in Louisiana will care even less. In Louisiana, the November election is essentially a primary. If Landrieu wins 50%, she is elected. If she does not, there will be a runoff between her and the top Republican vote getter.

This issue may help to keep Landrieu below 50.1%, but Maness can’t win and will probably take votes away from other Republican candidates. It won’t matter very much.

Kind of. They couldn't get him off the ballot. He was defeated in the primary.

There’s no chance that the top two will both be Democrats. That used to happen all of the time, which is why Louisiana has this system, but it has been awhile for statewide races.
