Another thing to possibly consider....heat is a killer of batteries..we live in the desert, and the garage never gets under 100 degrees for months on end; a "five year" car battery seldom makes it to three (the only upside is, we always end up replacing at N/C under warranty).
I don't leave any cordless stuff, or even the garage door clicker in the garage from April into October.
