McDonalds employees who picketed for a better living wage (whatever that means) may come to regret that decision.... a McDonalds in Illinois replaced their cashiers with machines. The machines appear to be the cousins of the ones found in grocery stores, big box stores, and CVS that allow customers to complete transactions...
This is all basic economics, really. As costs of labor increase the added cost must be offset. In order to satisfy operating costs, produce a product consumers want to purchase, and still turn a profit, its perfectly reasonable for a company like McDonalds to look for cost-cutting alternatives....
Robot makers must be loving the recent NLRB ruling, as well, which held McDonalds parent corporation liable for franchisee employment practices. Can a kiosk file an employment grievance?

Press one for English will be replaced with
Press one for a Big mac. I like it.
Do you like Dr. Pepper or a Cherry Coke? Those are basically pops that have been mixed.
There was an article this week that someone put up on gopbriefingroom about a vending machine that makes pizzas from scratch in 3 minutes.
There are vending machines that do fries. Make burgers. Make tacos. No machine yet that makes the slop Arby’s serves, but it’s coming. You are going to wind up with entire restaurants with a single employee on each shift, just to keep the machines topped off and bus tables (people tending to be pigs and not cleaning up after themselves is an increasingly common trend.)
the chicken sandwich isn’t too bad
I found it was better with some black pepper
“take some gloves when ordering. “
Ballpoint pen, or the eraser end of a pencil.
Look at the self-service checkouts in operation now. Touch screen with pictures. I’ll bet McD & BK already have the templates in use on their registers to aid illiterate staff members. Child’s play to roll this out to a kiosk that accepts cash or plastic. Heck, when the McD is inside Walmart, the Walmart cashiers can already place your order for you.
That one pizza machine holds enough to make a hundred 10 inch pizzas.
That employee has time to bus the tables, mop the floors and clean the bathrooms before refills.
Who cares. The food at McDonald's has sucked for a long time.
A story yesterday said that McD’s has a location they research new stuff, and it now has kiosk ordering machines.
Remember when Zero blamed ATMs for the high unemployment numbers..He’s gonna have a ball with this..
Well to all the little 20 something libtards out there picketing for a $15 minimum wage this is a little economics lesson for you. When the cost of unskilled labor gets too high you can replace it with a machine. No sick days, no health insurance, no FICA, no vacation, no listening to the complaining, no theft.
Good point. Never eat there anymore since high school but occasionally have an unction for a fillet o fish, Ii don’t know why. It is good but has gone up in price, now over four dollars. Just the consequence of more and more dollars chasing fewer goods—inflation by another name.
I ate at Red Robin today. They had hosts and waiters/waitresses, but when it was time to go, I paid a little machine right on my table. Soon, I guess, I’ll be able to order from the little table kiosk.
The machine will be able to understand English and get my order correct.
But it won’t spit on your food.
Dr. Pepper was a mix at the beginning but it has been its own drink for a century at least
They absolutely suck..Every other item it tells me to remove it, and reverses the entry..If I had a baseball bat..I'd beat it to death. I finally just left my cart, full of goods, and walked out.
WalMart seems to be trying to force people to use them...limiting the number of open cashiers...even when lines are long..
If it doesn’t do Spanish they will have a class-action lawsuit on their hands.
