Why do some Catholics vote Democrat? (Vanity)
Vanity | 08-01-2014 | Me

Posted on 08/01/2014 5:41:40 PM PDT by Thorliveshere

I have a co-worker I've known for many years (10), and all this time, from how spoke out against abortion, homosexuality & gay marriage, common sense, drugs, and so many other progressive ideals, that I assumed she was a Republican, until today.

We got onto the topic of class warfare and poverty. Well.. I was stunned to find that she supported the Democrats wholly on this, that was the only reason she did, that the fact they supported everything else she stood against, didn't matter. Republicans, Conservatives, and especially the Tea Party were liars and were rich and hated the poor, and they should completely support welfare programs, and they weren't "paying their fair share."

To say the least, I lit into her and was aghast at her stance. I guess I could have been a little more "velvet glove" about it, but it just got me angry, as I've seen this in other Catholics who support the welfare system (they must do EVERYTHING they can to fight the war on poverty), and America just wasn't throwing enough money down the rat hole.

Just what percentage of Catholics are like this? This is aggravating, when they SHOULD be the more conservative among us. I know there are lot of good Catholics here, but what have you guys encountered?

Some??? Most, and they always have.

Only 4 or 5 times (it is disputed), has the Catholic vote gone republican.

The majority of the Protestant vote has only gone democrat 3 times, in 1932, 1936, and 1964.

The most republican vote in America is the Evangelical, and especially the Southern Baptist denomination, second only to the Catholic denomination in size.

Our parish is heavily republican. Of course, our town tends towards republican. Outlying parishes are in a number of coal-mining patch towns. They tend democrat. It’s a union thing, I think.

Some of my Catholic family were staunch Democrats. The explanations were that the “Democrats are the working party,” and “In the old days when a Catholic family was struggling the Democrats would always show up with food baskets.”

There is some strange lore that runs through many Catholics that Republicans are rich and do nothing for the poor. Of course, the rest of know that the studies show that affluent Republicans always give more to charities than do affluent Democrats, but try to break through their embedded logic and you hit a brick wall.

I thought Catholics were supposed to be so much more intelligent and learned than the heathen Protestants. Or so I’m often told.

That generation is dying out. Unfortunately, the new breed of Democrat, like most of my nephews, are unthinking socialists.

The most Catholic states in this country are also the most Democrat and the most liberal. Proven.

Democrats are the Party of sin, and lots of it. Supporting evil and turning your head
is just as damning as acting out the sin themselves.

True Christians do not support Homosexuality yet many many do by just voting for Dems.
They know it's wrong but continue to shame their religion.

When they meet the maker how will they explain their culpability. They cannot.
Sin is sin, it's black and white and nothing can be explained away to God,
who knows your heart.

Just tell her to look up what democrats/communists have done in Soviet Union and satellites. Greek-Catholic religion was banned, priests and believers were forced to switch over to KGB run Russian Orthodox religion. Who did not “convert” was sent to prisons and Gulags.
Inteligencia, business owners and smart people became enemy of the state and were done with accordingly. The people had “privilege” to stand in bread lines and everybody was “equal”, except party apparatchiks who had special stores stacked with foreign goods.
This is what Kenyan is installing in US. Enjoy whatever freedom and property you have, wont last for long.
You didn’t build it! But he will use your taxes to blow on luxurious vacation (Moochelle too).

real christians understand that charity is not the same thing as forced government confiscation.

charity is voluntary, and people have freedom to decide who to give to, and in what amount. charity is not forcing everyone to pay a certain rate because government determines a pet cause and demands at point of gun/imprisonment that you have no choice but to comply with their demands for your money.

i would also challenge them if they twist scripture to say this is just giving to caesar what is caesars,

since when is what i earn, the government’s?
and second,

explain why jesus didn’t say that taxes are actually christian charity? why didn’t he preach that government should set up welfare programs and that christians should give all their alms to the government?

these people are socialists masquerading as christians, going after christians who do not understand their faith very well. can’t see that these people are putting forth specious arguments.

You might be on to something. Catholicism is a largely urban sect of Christianity, Judaism is the same way. (with exceptions) I don't know of any rural Catholic churches or Synagogues around here.
