I can’t speak for anywhere else, but I do know the Spanish being taught in the local public high school is the same as I was taught in Catholic high school in the 70s. The French my daughter is being taught is also the same as I took in HS.
Here in GA (where my sister teaches and she has a gringo accent from hell with all sorts of errors in her speech), it’s awful! They hire Mexicans who weren’t born here but have all of the bad habits of slang and improper usage of articles and even tenses. Spanish “text talk” is actually being used in publik skools.
Latin should be mandatory for anybody wishing to learn a a Romance Language.
