Op-Ed: Rick Perry's Illegal Immigration Magnets Cost Texas Big
Breitbart Texas ^ | 06/25/2014 | JoAnn Fleming

Politicians who are given to shallow, yet colorful rhetorical flourishes and “a do as I say–not as I do” approach to political adversaries hope “We the People” are too stupid, too distracted, and/or too eager for a savior to notice the real impact of their own actions–or inaction. Hoping the people will react like political groupies and just swoon at the sound of an authoritative, finger-wagging tone, chameleon politicians have conveniently selective amnesia when it comes to their own records and policies.

The most astonishing example of this in recent days is Texas Governor Rick Perry’s rants about President Obama’s “policies that serve as a magnet to encourage illegal immigration". That’s rich coming from Perry who has been Texas governor for almost fourteen years and has amassed plenty of public statements about his own favorite magnets for illegals.

This is what it takes to reverse the magnet:
  1. secure the border in a transparently verifiable way;
  2. end the anchor-baby interpretation of the 14th Amendment;
  3. enforce eVerify without exception and with severe penalties;
  4. deportation upon contact with any law enforcement agency - federal, state or local
  5. no government benefits beyond critical emergency care (and that ought to be billed back to the home government); and
  6. NO "Path to Citizenship" - EVER - for anyone who has entered the US illegally.
Any measure that does not accomplish these six things is unacceptable. It is de facto amnesty. And it will inevitably, ineluctably encourage millions and millions more illegal entries.

7. Allow emergency rooms to refuse service to illegal aliens.

Funny how an emergency morphed from life threatening injuries from a car accident to the sniffles, and taxpayers have to pay for it all for the illegals. They can’t even be questioned about their status.

What happened to that DPS “surge”?

They’re not repelling invasion, they’re facilitating it!

That is an excellent, and succinct, list.

I'll second the motion. Excellent list.

Perry better pull his head out of his backside on this one. Particularly if he thinks he's going to work his way up the political food chain.

Sure has been quiet in Texas after Perry launched his ‘surge’

Almost like not a damn thing even happened down there. I wonder why....

Ya mean he didn't really mean it? lol!

If I have learned anything from watching Perry over the years it is that we should only believe him when he is advocating for ILLEGALs. You can bet he means it when he does and he has the record to prove it.

I was SO SURE that this man of his word, guardian of the teenaged cervix, promoter of infrastructure and champion of border technology in lieu of BP jobs...was going to do something too...

Imagine my surprise.

"guardian of the teenaged cervix"

lol!

If he was the guardian of anything it was the financial interests of Merck, the makers of Gardasil.

In the old days before the U.S. taxpayers had to foot the bill for healthcare, education and other welfare for Mexicans working over our border it was a win win situation. Men would cross over and work, and send money home and go home to visit their family when they could. Or families would get temp visas for farm work and then go home, because they could earn money here that went a lot farther for them when they went home to Mexico.

When the liberals decided that we needed to keep the families together and pay their way, it all went to hell. W Bush and Perry both live in the past I believe.

Indeed...But obviously you hate America and love Obama.

Just wanted to get that out of the way before one of his apologists pulls it on cue ;)

Ah, yes, I remember it well. Oh, so many "Magic Moments" w/ "Ricky the Texas Miracle."

I, myself, first laid eyes on him----when he stomped all over Michele Bachman's hard-fought win in the first Idaho go-round---pasting that silly grin on his face, flashing the victory sign---as if HE had won....not Michele.

Stuff like that works on trusting Texans----Perry had no idea he was dealing with savvy, sophisticated voters outside Texas. That was his undoing. He expected us to overlook his massive goofs----like his adoring pimpos did.

STROLL DOWN MEMORY LANE

Perry did NOT campaign in NH AND FINISHED ALMOST DEAD LAST. However, Perry DID campaign in Iowa---AND FINISHED ALMOST DEAD LAST.

In NH, Perry spent $6 million--the most of any candidate,

----Perry ran around in two campaign buses,

----Perry held numerous campaign events,

---- glad-handed thousands of Iowans,

----Perry ran non-stop ads touting his conservative credentials,

----Perry trucked in 1000 Texans for groundwork,

----Perry campaigned with California legislators and other high-level supporters

----PERRY FINISHED ALMOST DEAD LAST IN NH.

================================

BACKSTORY---when Perry went for the presidency, he and his Texas cronies projected an air of supreme self-assurance and indifference to outside advice.....Perry never even entered the first Iowa go-round-----and stomped allover Bachmann's hard-won victory, announcing his candidacy on the same day she won. Perry was posing for pics, acting like he had won Iowa, with 700 write-ins.

However, when sinking polls and losses forced him to regroup, Perry's hastily assembled new team found: Perry's 2012 campaign was mounted like Perry's state campaigns: (1) raise a bunch of money, (2) don’t worry about the [media coverage], (3) don’t worry about debates, (4) buy the race on TV.

The new team was not sympathetic: "You have to be a total rube to think a race for president is the same as a state race for governor. There has never been a more ineptly orchestrated, just unbelievably subpar campaign for president of the United States than this one."

To nationwide voters, Perry appeared to be calculatedly opportunistic---making it up as he went along....smugly assured that Americans would buy the stuff he peddled to Texans.
