SYLVAN LAKE, Mich. - A homeless woman walking along a road in Sylvan Lake was suddenly and brutally attacked after dark on Memorial Day.

Police say the 53-year-old woman was walking in a secluded area near Telegraph Road and James K. Boulevard when two men approached her from behind. She said one man knocked her down and continued beating her while the other man stood by and watched.

Sylvan Lake police Sgt. Eric Zuehlk described the beating.

"He pulled her to her feet with his left hand, beat her repeatedly with his right hand. After the assault, he just dropped her and they continued to walk back up onto Telegraph," Zuehlk said.

The attack was similar to what has come to be called the knockout game, in which an attacker approaches an unsuspecting person and sucker punches them.

Sgt. Zuehlk said this case was different.

"It's very similar to the knockout game that everybody's been hearing about lately, with the exception that this particular attack was multiple punches, it was not one punch," Zuehlk said.

The stunned and injured victim took two days to walk to a hospital. As soon as she got there, staff called police.

Anyone who may have witnessed the attack or has any information that can help police in their investigation is asked call Sgt. Eric Zuelk at the Sylvan Lake Police Department at -248-682-1440 ext. 303

I never pay attention to rap anyway. To me it is crap, but thanks for researching it. The bottom line is, I think this will get worse before it gets better.

The good citizens of Detroit couldn’t see something was wrong and help?

The “good citizens of Detroit” is almost an oxymoron.

When those targeted by this assault

Got news for you homies, that ain't even near Detroit and in that neck of the woods, it's unlikely even YOU could afford to live there..........

Given the hood and the fact that they were walkin' and not drive-by thuggin', it likely the perps were, wait for it, wait for it....here it comes Mikey, "kids suffering from affluenza".

That's right homies, ain't no Detroit ghetto blacks out der, only rich kids...............

Pontiac ditched some 500 city employees including most police. Police went to the county who cover Pontiac now. Other city services were privatized.

That’s what I have read!

From the Wall Street Journal...

Violent ‘knockout game’ a national phenomenon
http://online.wsj.com/article/APa2d6bf76647e475a9d4576667abf4dda.html

An editorial in the St. Louis paper in 2011 likened the game to behavior described in “A Clockwork Orange.”

In 1992, police in Cambridge, Mass., said three drunken teenagers decided to play “knockout” and randomly targeted an MIT student, according to news reports. After the student was knocked to the ground, a 16-year-old stabbed the victim to death as he tried to get up.

The defendant in that case, Shon McHugh, was sentenced as a juvenile to 20 years in prison.

You have remember that songs can have double meanings.

It might just be a co-incidence that the song was written three years after it started.

Having stayed there for some years, I can attest to the accuracy of your statement. It’s one of those places that make you or break you.

I thought last summer would be when things got out of hand and instead of the knockout “game” being perpetrated on just one or two defenseless people at a time it would become outright riots.

Didn’t happen. Guess they are getting too much free chit to riot.

Do you think Sylvan Lake would be a safe place to relocate then? How sad that Pontiac has become so awful. What about Pontiac Lake? I grew up waterskiing there as a child.

Your assessment of that part of Sylvan Lake is bang on the money. My sister and her boyfriend lived there before relocating to Royal Oak—they are without a doubt the two trashiest people I know personally. Actually her boyfriend very recently relocated from Royal Oak to Jackson Pen, where he’ll be a guest of the state for 19 months to four years. Lovely couple.
