No, 18 was pretty awful, too, although at least Dad had the RX-7 by then.

When I turned 18, I had been married 10 months. I never even got a party!

Or a cool sports car that your dad let you drive, I’m sure.

I didn’t get married until I was 22-1/2.

I used to say 30 was my “ideal” age, until I was about 40. Then I changed it to 50! At 50, I may say 65.

By the time I was 18, my dad had been gone for seven months. All he had was a 3-speed Ford pickup that he used to haul his paint and ladders around to jobs. I didn’t get it...my mother sold it so she could run away.

The only parties I can recall were those when I turned eight and the one I threw for myself when I turned 50. Now THAT was a party!

Today was Son#1’s birthday so I threw some yardbird on the grill to convert it from rawstuff to cookedstuff, and Mrs. NoC baked a cake. Mrs. NoC was not happy with her cake and informed Mrs. Son#1 of that fact. This caused Mrs. Son#1 to stop at a storeplace and purchase a cake, which was still slightly frozen.

As the yardbird was burning, er, grilling, the sun went into hiding behind some clouds that continued to darken in color as the day progressed. Almost simultaneously with the yardbird reaching a suitable internal temperature indicating its doneness, the rain started...

Plans of eating around the outdoor table were scrubbed and the slabs of yardbird were quickly thrown on a platter and hustled indoors to avoid the falling precipitation. There they were quickly consumed by a pack of ravenous adults and some creatures known as ‘grandkids’ .

Then we had cake.

You know, cake with slightly frozen strawberry filling isn’t all that bad especially when the temperature is hanging in the 90’s. And we also decided that Mrs. NoC’s cake was ok too. The problem is that now there’s a lot of extra cake..

So if anyone visits in the near future, expect to be force-fed cake, with a side of cake, and cake for desert. Wonder if there’s a way to liquify cake into a beverage. And of course, it can be fed to the grandkids for breakfast and would probably be more healthful than most storebought cerals because at least in Mrs. NoC’s cake there is no high fructose corn syrup...

And I’m still trying to work out the math that allows Son#1 to be 43 when I’m only 34. I’m sure Common Core Math will be useful in the explanation...

Back from Walmart. I spent less than half of what I spent last month, but it was deliberate so I could at least pay for the diagnostic on the BB SUV.

The cab driver was nice, and was from “East Texas” and everything he said had a ‘Yes, Ma’am!” in it! <3

Back from the water park. Kathleen kept taking lifeguards by the hand and saying, “Come on, Bill! Slide!” Baby reasoning powers: All boys are my brothers, all brothers must obey me.

When Hockeybug was that age, we would go to the commissary and as we entered the gate, I would hear, from over my right shoulder, “Mama! So many daddies!” when he would see all the sailors headed out for Liberty on foot.

He was such a happy little guy!
