If the democratically elected government of Ukraine could be overthrown and replaced by US/NATO/EU/IMF representatives, how come the reverse isn't true?

That is, how come an anti-US coalition couldn't be formed in Mexico with the help of a Russian centric 'defense' force - similar in construction to NATO - that immediately turned around and signed a treaty with joint military presence comprised of, oh, how about Russian, Chinese & Iranian 'advisers'?

Oh, that's right, something about the Monroe Doctrine. Well, for the numbskulls pushing this strategy in E Europe, guess what? Russia will go to the mat protecting its sphere of influence.

But just because they (at the moment anyway) can't pull this game off in MX doesn't mean they can't roll up Poland, the Baltics, and even some weaker states like Turkey, Greece, etc.

The US/NATO has demonstrated over the last 20 years that it's pretty simple to help overthrow a government - even if you have to bomb them like Serbia. Afterward, all you do then is carve out a partition, recognize the (new) sovereign state/enclave, and and then bring forward the appropriate trade and military base agreements.

We had a great 23 year run while it lasted. The petro-dollar still strong, sufficient conventional fossil fuel resources here & abroad, (semi) cohesive national interest.

Now, all reversed - especially the part about cohesive culture and national interest.

Well when they come out of their holes, it will be a good opportunity to ship them home.

Truthfully this would probably be a good thing..Obama would concede any American rights to any land Mexico tried to grab..but that leaves it also open for Americans in that same area to fight for their own Independent from Obama America

Really if Mexico try to claim Texas..and Obama conceded it..he just legally has given up any US claim on Texas without any Civil War 2...now all Texas would have is a fight with Mexico..piece of cake

They took one look at what’s in the White House and knew that it was now or never.

But remember, Mexico was paid millions in GOLD to give up all rights to the lands north of the Rio Grande. Later the Gadsden Purchase was also paid in GOLD.

Meanwhile, Seward paid RUSSIA millions in GOLD to give up the ALASKA areas.

These nations have NO CLAIM to any of the USA! If MEXICO is worried about their ILLEGAL immigrants in the USA, they should call them home.

Language must not be used to segregate and isolate groups...

Well... how about national borders?

I agree with you save for the identity of the state. My hunch is Hawaii will be the first to break away.

~difference is Russia can kick ass while the Mexican army is corrupt and incapable of even dealing with drug lords.~

Nope. The difference is that in socioeconomic terms Russia is not Mexico and Ukraine is not USA. In reality it is just opposite.
Military power is nowhere near top as a factor.
Every Ukrainian government since their independence were extremely corrupt, no matter what their geopolitical affiliation was. For that reason Ukraine has light years ahead to catch with Mexico economically and 6 in 10 citizens regardless their ethnicity wouldn’t mind to trade independence for a Russian EBT card.

The article may be satire but the Czechs were not laughing after losing Sudetenland. The fact it was handed to Germany by a flaming progressive elitist may be the element of history that repeats itself.

I mentioned immigration & “what would be next”, together, in some comment/question I made on wsj, regarding the world’s willingness to legitimize Russia’s “ethnic identity” defense of its actions in Crimea. No one thought I was serious.
