In Dec 1948 I was also born a British subject..
however one month later in January 1949 when my birth was registered I was registered as a New Zealander because the same thing had happened there as happened in Kenya..
but under the old law I was eligible to get a British passport instead of a New Zealand passport...
because of the actual DATE of my birth...
dates as well as places are important in the matter of birth...
(in my case it may have been that the new forms were unavailable until the following month as the old British forms were either retired or no longer available in our small town far from anywhere..
My ledger size birth certificate states NEW ZEALAND large as life and nothing about British or Britian..)
I never did think to ask my mother why she waited one month to register my birth other than the government office being closer over Christmas etc)
