I thought you denounced going after the messenger?

There are messengers and then there are total imbecilic morons... Go read that idiot's antics at the link above... It's boggles the mind that a "sane" person would actually post or consider supporting such ignorant stupidity by posting such on a well respected site like FR...

I mean you have really got to be desperate to stoop that low. lol

Maybe you can find it here? I did not see an inter-testament chapter though:

>>I'll take Nehemiah Gordon's evidence, a notably skilled and certified Hebrew Bible scholar<<

You mean this Nehemiah Gordon? The guy who is such a Hebrew Bible scholar that he still doesn’t see who the Messiah is?

Here’s a couple of excerpts from an email from Nehemiah Gordon.

“I have not converted to Christianity nor do I attempt to convince anyone to change their faith. I suppose the reason for these false speculations is that some people have a hard time understanding why a Jew who does not believe in Jesus would write a book on his teachings unless he has a secret agenda.”

“Let me start with my views on Jesus of Nazareth, or as he was known 2000 years ago, "Yeshua". Over the past few years I have gained a great respect for his teachings, but I have not embraced the Christian faith nor have I become a "Messianic Jew." I clearly state this in all of my presentations in order to avoid any possible confusion. I am, as I have been for over twenty years, a Karaite Jew, which means I believe the Tanakh ("Old Testament") to be the perfect word of God. As a Karaite Jew, I await the coming of an anointed King (in Hebrew: "Messiah") who will be a direct descendant of King David. I have no idea what his name will be and therefore I do not rule out the possibility that his name will be "Yeshua". Many Jews, and Karaites in particular, may vehemently disagree with me on this last point. All I can say is that when the anointed descendant of David reigns as a flesh and blood king over Israel, as promised in the Scriptures, we will all know his name as an accomplished fact.”

The full email can be found here

He can’t be much of a scholar if he doesn’t even understand the words of God about who the Messiah is.

There are 6 million Jews living in Israel. You know how many accept that Yeshua is Messiah? Maybe 20K... Nehemiah Gordon is a Karaite Jew, but still well respected as a Hebrew/Jewish bible scholar by everyone, regardless of his personal beliefs.

Nope, but I like to listen to his presentations! He is one of the smartest men on the scriptures that I know of. As I've told you a dozen times, the Hebrew Roots movement has no leaders to follow, except of course for Yeshus. The movement to learn more about our common Hebrew root encompasses every denomination.

Do a little looking on the net, why don't you?

He’s such a scholar and understands the Hebrew language so well that he doesn’t understand God’s word when it identifies the Messiah. He’s as blind to the words of God as you are. The blind leading the blind as they say.

Well, why don't you get on the next plane to Israel and convert the other 6 million as well then... lol

Trying to use the man's personal beliefs to discredit his well recognized historical research is beyond hypocrisy...

Yeah, that’s what he claims but they don’t like him much.

We, the undersigned practitioners of Karaite Judaism, are very concerned about Nehemia Gordon's work involving Messianic Christianity.

“We are also concerned about the ever growing reaction on part of Christians who, due to the activities of Messianic teachers like Michael Rood, various Hebrew-roots preachers and our own Karaite Jew Nehemia Gordon, develop misunderstandings regarding the Israelite God, religion and people in the form of a new religion called, Messianic Karaism.”

“Nehemia, take it from the Karaites, your brethren: this is doing more harm than good. We don't care about how your works are received by pastors, rabbis and Christians. We don't care about 'fantastic reviews.' We take no stock in them. Their comments are meaningless to us. Our eyes are on you and the effects your actions are having. Many of us are students of yours. We, the undersigned, have a responsibility to retain the integrity and pride of Karaism and Torah”

Honestly (Oops there's that word again) CrazyBear... Is that really so hard to understand??? And are you really going to stoop low enough to use that to attempt to discredit him???

From his website:

"Nehemia Gordon holds a Masters Degree in Biblical Studies and a Bachelors Degree in Archaeology from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. He has worked as a translator on the Dead Sea Scrolls and as a researcher deciphering ancient Hebrew manuscripts. A prominent figure in the Karaite Jewish community, Gordon has written two popular books on the Hebrew origins of Christianity and is active in interfaith dialogue. Gordon speaks at synagogues and churches around the world and leads groups of pilgrims and visitors on tours of biblical sites."

Have you no shame???

What part of “he doesn’t understand Hebrew and the word of God well enough to realize who the Messiah is” don’t you understand? I don’t care what degrees he has or accolades his followers bestow on him. He obviously doesn’t understand what God has said.

But no evidence of him [Paul] writing in it [Greek].

I, Paul, write this greeting with my own hand. (1 Cor. 16:21)

See with what large letters I am writing to you with my own hand. (Gal. 6:11)

I, Paul, write this greeting with my own hand. (Col. 4:18)

I, Paul, write this greeting with my own hand. This is the sign of genuineness in every letter of mine; it is the way I write. (2 Thess. 3:17)

I, Paul, write this with my own hand. (Philemon 19)

And, in any case, we also know that Paul employed an amanuensis, as was customary. We even know the name of one: Tertius (Rom. 16:22). Whether Paul wrote entire letters with his own hand is nothing but a distraction from the real issue: If the New Testament was written in Hebrew originally, why are there thousands of Greek copies, but zero ancient Hebrew copies?

And in regard to the remainder of your post, there is no evidence that any of the other apostles could even speak Greek.

The books of Luke—his Gospel and Acts—are addressed to a "Theophilus." That is a Greek name. I wonder what language a man with a Greek name might have spoken.

Sure, anything is possible

See, this is why it's so difficult to take your arguments seriously. On the one hand, you want us to believe that it's possible, that the New Testament was originally written in Hebrew, even though you have no empirical evidence that was the case, only conjecture. On the other hand, the overwhelming number of Greek copies makes it not only possible but probable that the New Testament's original language was Greek. Yet while you admit that "anything is possible," you dismiss the possibility out of hand.

Inconsistency is the sign of a failed argument.

It looks like Studylight includes the exegetical/expository volumes of the series, but not Volume 1, which consists entirely of essays about the Bible.

It took quite a few posts but I understand your position (may not agree with it) on Rood. You see a character ‘assassination’ in the works.

A few difficulties are apparent. Being fair-minded I tried to find transcripts of Rood’s videos because frankly watching videos is a support to scholarship not the main method of scholarship. Plus I like to read more than watch works. It seems his teachings are primarily on DVD. He does have some books on the DVD subject matter, however, I did not see in the summary pages any such works which explain his theological method or exegesis model.

When such materials are not evident, a search for a doctrinal thesis is in order and I could not find one. Perhaps you have found one and can share a link.

In other words, if Matthew (or the larger body of the New Testament) originated in Aramaic or Hebrew, it would be unnecessary to tell the reader what a particular Hebrew word or phrase means.

That seems to be the logical argument. I agree.
