I think Mr. Hooks made a poor choice of location in shooting his BB gun but a swat response with armored vehicle was a a little over the top.....

Soldier speaks out about 'target practice' that triggered SWAT scene

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas – It was a wild scene in north Harris County Monday after reports of a possible sniper put two nearby schools on lockdown.

Dozens of police vehicles, including an armored truck, descended on Darbydale Crossing where several homes are under construction.

"What the people are saying is it’s someone with an AK 47… in the bushes hiding, randomly just sniping," said Teresa Moran, who lives nearby.

Air 11 flew overhead as deputies with riot shields approached a house with guns drawn.

In the end, it was all just a misunderstanding.

The soldier was shooting at a target he setup on the side of his home with an air rifle.

Wait, he was on HIS property?
They had NO reason to do this. Unless Texas considers air rifles as, "Firearms."

you have to be pretty dumb to shoot a hole in a neighbors window, and irresponsible.
i mean really.

you rally can’t complain if they freak out. i think i would call the police as well if someone punched whole in my window. wouldn’t you?

This was thoroughly unfortunate in all respects. We have a responsibility to conduct target practice in a safe manner, and hitting the window on another home is pretty convincing proof that the Iraq War veteran had not given enough thought to safety or to good manners. Homeland Security agents should have at least a little common sense, and calling in the world over a pellet ricochet is an irrational overreaction. As for SWAT, they were just doing what they always do, except that apparently no dogs were shot. I just hope this series of unfortunate events will not lead to yet another inconvenient and useless law.

a Homeland Security agent who was a potential buyer of the home was inside it at the time.

Well, I'm glad these people are protecting me.

However, I'd guess if had been a middle-eastern type character running a terrorist drill, the agent would have told the fellow "Abu akbar!"

Probably because none were around.

In the video the ‘shooters’ wife explains how the broken windows were caused by local yutes damaging the unoccupied houses. Does not justify the ‘shooter’ shootin his BB gun outside though in the residential neighborhood.

See the video:

Even if he was maliciously plinking away at someone else’s windows, calling out an armored response over a BB gun says a lot about law enforcement and the idiot that called it in.

He’d have a tough time where I live. There are people shooting real guns all the time.

Wait, he was on HIS property?

The problem was the pellet ended up on someone else's property, which I don't believe was an accident.

Well, if that other property owner had evidence, he/she should have went over and told the guy that he has to pay for the damages. Not a SWAT team and armored vehicle response.

HS agent called SWAT for a BB gun? He should be charged as well. If he can’t tell the difference he is an idiot and criminally stupid.

We don't know if it was a ricochet, and if the window was broken he may not have known it was a pellet. Some of the better air rifles can shoot a pellet at over 1000 fps.
