Toot ?
An African name for grandmother ??

Actually while visiting HI it is a term of endearment given to older
Members of the community. A lady we met was called Aunty Toot by all although she was not related to any of the people who called her by the name. She was treated with a great deal of respect and love by all

I now send most of what I find to LucyT for PM distribution. Occasionally she gets flooded The downside of this is its not out in the public eye (which may keep it safe)

she's not going to like you writing that, this activity was supposed to remain a secret, there's a special private list of freepers for that, and now you've let on that you are on it. Needless to say, I'm not.

...An African name for grandmother ??

Now who said AFRICAN? The origin of the name comes from 'Dreams' - evidently you don't know that - although I have printed out that chapter from the book uncounted times. The author uses 'Dreams' as a device to show how Stanley Ann Dunham was called Ann by her father, Stanley Ann by her mother and Anna by the kenyan student, all in the one brief, one-page conversation, in which Madelyn is called Toot.

The next time we hear of Anna is in an article out of Kenya itself, in which a member of the clan tells the interviewer that the kenyan had gone to the US and married a woman named ANNA TOOT.

I'll leave it to you to decide which might have come first. The letters he wrote home to his father, in one of which he told the only man who could read - Onyango - that he was married, and named the woman, in another in which he wrote to say he had a son, or if you think the villager read the book before the interview in 2004.

And btw, that term of endearment to which you refer is TUTU...not TOOT. However, in the letter the kenyan may have witten Tutu and the name has come down through the telling, in an oral society as Toot.

Changes nothing. I'll keep asking, who was ANNA? Who was Anna Obama who showed up in Seattle and according to Mary, it was in January 1961, and in April she discussed with the Salvation Army having the child adopted. The name in that memo from the INS isn't truncated for no reason. If that name was Miss Dunham we would have been allowed to see it.

It’s possible. The baby-sitters husband used the name TOUT when he worked in real estate in Clovis after his divorce from Mary - and her daughter, an actress, used the nickname ATOOT on her Amazon page, until she wiped it.

However, it’s more likely that the Toot or even Tout (which are both surnames that appear in Hawaii) is derived from the letters the kenyan wrote home, and had become common knowledge to the clan. It had to be dealt with in ‘Dreams’ so that no one would get the idea to go looking for Anna.

She’s Stanley Ann Dunham, and her mother is Toot. And that’s where you are supposed to leave it.

I lived in HI more than 13 years and would hear and read in the newspapers etc the word “tutu” referring to grandmothers, aunties and elderly family or neighbor women.

I never heard just “tut” or “toot”.

Then you’ll understand the problem they had with ANNA TOOT being part of the oral history of the kenyan in his home village, the clan members were all illiterate when the kenyan wrote home, only Onyango, who read the koran by the light of a lamp or candle, according to his employer, could read.

The clan recalls the name as Anna Toot according to the article out of Kenya dated 2004, but he might have read out Annie and/or Anna Tutu...and that would make her a LOCAL HAWAIIAN GIRL. Perhaps someone more likely to have started a relationship with a Luo native...rather than the tripe we are fed about the white teenager from Kansas of which there’s no physical evidence of her presence until 1963.

The spell of SAD as mother has been cast and it’s like witchcraft. Few are prepared to let go of it. It’s a trap, it’s like quicksand. It swallows common sense.

Those letters probably still exist somewhere in Kenya, but you’ll never see them, one would show the name of the woman he married and her name ‘they call her Annie Tutu’ for example, and the other would show the date of when he wrote home to tell his father he had a son.

The most interesting features of the letters however would be the photographs of the wife and child he enclosed to show his family. Whoever has those, if they still exist, owns a powerful weapon if they ever chose to use it.

How do you think Mark obtained the photograph of the two little boys, one of whom is obviously a little older and darker than the other, one went to Kenya with his father and the other is your little zero....

So who’s going to be the first to hear a cuckoo in Spring?

He could sing and play the guitar, and any one of those girls could be a japanese student named Ann Obama, or a local lass named Annie Tutu as an endearment.

Africa, India, USA, Asia and Europe makes five. There are seven people, so at least two are locals. Stanley Ann Dunham wasn't invited.

I know about that Anna Toot, but how in the name of all that’s sacred and makes sense, would the member of the Onyango Clan in Kenya have known about that in 2004?

Your Anna Toot died in 1841. Are you suggesting that Stanley Ann Dunham called herself Anna Toot when she went to Kenya with zero after the old man was killed in 1982?

The same people who knew about Anna Toot also saw the son of the kenyan student whom they understood was the young man named BHO2 mourning at his grave after the funeral. Who was that?

That’s interesting; so the Kenyan sent photos of his wife and child back home.

I did wonder where Mark got that photo. And, he was the only legitimate heir. So I would assume he may have the photos, possibly.

Obama Family: "Barack Obama Sr Married Anna Toot in Hawaii" "Their union produced B. Obama Jr."

Posted on 04/27/2010 4:35:01 PM PDT by bushpilot1

"According to the family, Obama's father travelled to America to study at the University of Hawaii in 1959. While there, he worked for an oil company and married his second wife, a white woman, named Anna Toot, and their union produced Barack Obama Jr." --- By John Oywa, 15 August 2004

” CHICAGO, Nov. 3 (UPI) — Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama’s grandmother, “Toot,” died Monday at her home in Honolulu, the family said.”

My head is spinning.
Like our Founding Fathers must be.

Ironic. Barak's doctor just told him to quit taking so many toots.

25 posted on 04/27/2010 4:55:54 PM PDT by The_Media_never_lie

Early attempts to track him included his mother assuming the name “Toot” (maiden last name). Toot was the last name of an ancestor (aunt I think) of Stanley Dunham.

Nothing new in this possible connection.

I lived in HI for about 14 years, when I read that stuff about 0thugga’s grandmother, it was known to me. Tutu does mean Grandma and tutukane means Grandpa. Kane (pronounced “kah ney”) means “man”.

I was trying to remember Grandpa and I just cound this silly little list, there are tons more Hawaiian pidgin sites:

Well, how convenient is that then? Senior marries ANNA TOUT, her name becomes TOOT phonetically, the family in Kenya know about her...

Meanwhile, in Hawaii, there’s Stanley Ann’s mother, she’s a grandmother nicknamed TUT. And Stanley has the middle name ANN, so we’ll call her ANN or ANNA, and Bob’s your Uncle, problem solved.

ANNA TOUT HAS DISAPPEARED. She’s been swallowed up by the MYTH of DREAMS.

In Hawaii the honorific for grandma is Tutu. It's phonetically simple for little kids (keiki) to manage in their early years......and it sticks. But it's doubtful that it's pronunciation derived from the Hawaiian language since there is no T consonant. The word for grandmother is Kuku wahine, the 'Tutu' prounciation is most likely Samoan or Tahitian.

"There was no connection between the Dunhams and the name TOUT or TOOT. But the contents of the letters that Obama Senior wrote home to Kenya, over time, became common knowledge in the village. So that when Kezia said, ‘he married ANNA TOOT’ she was simply repeating what everyone knew...

"Came time to write the mythology: - ANNA and TOOT had to be woven into the narrative. ... Stanley Ann, who was NEVER known as anything BUT Stanley Ann, or the nickname Stanney, as attested by several of her Mercer Island classmates... was given the name ANN or ANNA, and Madelyn was given the nickname TOOT, ‘because’ isn’t TUT an abbreviation of grandmother in Hawaiian?

"ANNA TOUT might have been the woman O Senior married in the US, if he married anybody... but IMO he never married Stanley Ann Dunham. He arrived in Hawaii in 1959 from goodness knows where, and it seems Stanley Ann Dunham was at that time in Chicago."

Long story...the article this came from was from an African publication dated 2004. There were a number of anomalies, and one of them was that the kenyan student had gone to the US for his education, and while he was there, he worked for an oil company and married a woman named Anna Toot.
Most perplexing.
Remember, Aunt Zeituni also said that he wrote home and told them he had a son in Hawaii?

There was only one member of the clan who could read, and that was Onyango, he read the kenyan student’s letters out to the members of the clan - who retold the story, it was an oral society, and the names you hear and see are the result of phonetics.

Anna Toot could have been Anna Tout, or even Annie Tutu, but Anna Toot stuck, and must have had a long enough life in the retelling because there’s a passage in ‘Dreams’ that attempts to account for Anna Toot. (I won’t bother posting it again.)

But it’s enough to remind you that Stanley Ann Dunham was named both Ann and Anna in a conversation invented by the author, and that’s when Madelyn first became known as TOOT. It must have been seen as essential to get rid of the names of the woman he wrote home about.
Anna Toot, or even Annie Tutu was a liabilty, she had to be written out. And she was.
As for the oil company, you don’t think the kenyan’s huge ego was going to allow him to admit he was working in the pine-apple cannery for the Dole Corp, as it shows on his documentaion, do you?
So he wrote home to say he was employed by an oil company, knowing that no one in the clan would know there was no oil in Hawaii.
Alternatively, there’s an article that maintains he said, when he was interviewed in 1962, that he hadn’t been in Kenya for seven years. He may have said he hadn’t been home for seven years, meaning the village, but if that statement is true as it was made, then he had plenty of time to marry someone named Anna Toot or Tout (or Annie Tutu which has been explained by a freeper as meaning oldersister/auntie) and actually work somewhere, but that could have been on the mainland, and his docs show he boarded an aircraft in the UK to fly to New York where he landed in August, 1959.

Sorry you mentioned it?

One thing I’m sure of is that the person in Kenya who provided this little vignette didn’t get the name out of the Seattle Polk directory which showed Anna Obama living on Capitol Hill.

There were people in Kenya who knew her name four years before we heard of any Anna Obama in Seattle, and I doubt very much of they bought a copy of ‘Dreams’ - but I suppose it’s possible zero gave them copies to study, by 1992 when it was published iirc, there would have been a few more literates in the village...

So we’re back to, yes, he wrote home to his father, both Zeituni and this person telling the story remember, he married a woman and had a child, we just don’t know the dates on the letters and we still don’t know who ANNA TOOT was, but valiant attempts have been made to turn the two of them into SAD and zero.

I can't find "toot" in this dictionary either.

Pidgin English Words Starting With T

tutu
(two two)

Definition: grandmother; wise, old woman
Used In A Sentence: No can. I goin’ take tutu shopping today.
In English?: Unfortunately, I won’t be able to join you guys today. I’m going to take my gradmother shopping.

Oh boy, valiant attempts have been made allright, that piece of potted history from April 2010 until today sure hits home, doesn’t it? No one really wants to know who Anna Obama might have been, she’s a a threat to the whole story.

BIGLOOK comes close. He says the name, if that’s what the kenyan wrote, (Tutu) and the clan remembers that as TOOT, was either Tahitian or Samoan.

Now there’s a likely girlfriend for the kenyan student. That dark boy who was his son didn’t have a caucasian mother.
