If climate is important to you, the Mountains of Western, North Carolina or Eastern Tennessee is really nice, particularly in the Summer. The Vanderbilts liked the area around Asheville.
Actually Northern Georgia is pretty good too.

That’s actually not far from where I live. One of the things I like about where I am now, btw, is that although there are lots of rolling hills, there are no steep hills like in Seattle. It means that when the roads are snowy and frosty, you just go a little slower. In Seattle, it means sliding down hills with your wheels locked up - or getting stuck at the bottom of a hill.
Interestingly, though it gets colder here than my old hometown of Seattle, the cold season is MUCH shorter.
I miss East Tennessee. A friend always tells me to shut up about East Tennessee. He doesn’t want people moving there and ruining it before he retires.
No state income tax in Tennessee either. Moderate climate, abundant cheap power, low cost housing and plenty to do in the great outdoors. Add all of that to good people.
