Crist to speak for Dems at Gridiron [squares off with Ted Cruz]

Republican-turned-Independent-turned-Democrat Charlie Crist will be the Democratic speaker at Washington's famed Gridiron dinner.

He will face off against Republican Sen. Ted Cruz (Texas) at the March event.

Gridiron president Clark Hoyt of Bloomberg announced the selection in an email to members on Tuesday.

"I'm delighted to announce that former Florida Gov. Charlie Crist will be the Democratic speaker at the 2014 Gridiron Spring Dinner on Saturday, March 8. Crist will square off against Texas Sen. Ted Cruz representing the Republicans," Hoyt wrote in an email obtained by The Hill.

Crist, the former Republican governor of Florida, is running for his old job again — this time as a Democrat.

He left the gubernatorial office in 2010 to run for the Senate. During that race, being overtaken in polls by Republican candidate Marco Rubio (who went on to win the seat), Crist switched and ran as an Independent. He joined the Democratic Party in 2012 and endorsed President Obama for re-election.

The Gridiron Dinner is one of Washington's most oldest and prestigious events. The white-tie gathering features some of the most prominent names in politics and the club membership is invitation-only.

The evening's speakers are usually seen as up-and-comers in the party. President Obama has only gone twice while in office and has not said if he'll attend this year's.

“Don’t just single out Cornyn .....”

Cornyn was head of the NRSC and endorsed Arlen Specter, Charlie Crist and Lincoln Chafee, all of which are now democrats (Specter, though dead, is still a democrat and probably still voting).

And you’re right that McConnell is equally to blame. His cronies are at the NRSC, which is why we had a slew of losers last November, but they’ll blame the Tea Party for the losses in MO and IN, when Todd Akin was not the Tea Party candidate in MO (Sarah Steelman was) and McConnell’s and the NRSC’s preferred nominee in IN, incumbent Dick Luger, is now endorsing and funding the democrat nominee in GA.

I’m on pins and needles waiting for polling on Stockman v. Cornyn to come out.

Following that ad was one slamming Steve Stockman

On FNC all day Cornyn is once an hour with Dewhurst immediately behind him.

Crist will look the fool, yet be praised by the media...especially the liberal Miami media.

Don't just single out Cornyn .....

Cornyn should be singled out as he was singularly responsible for torpedoing conservative opportunities. Crist was only one of his runaway torpedoes.

John Cornyn claims to be the 2nd most conservative member of the Senate.
Yet, as Chairman of the National Republican Senatorial Committee, he
hand-selected these "Republican" candidates:
  • Arlen Specter - Democrat
  • Charlie Crist - Democrat
  • Lincoln Chafee - Democrat
  • Lisa Murkowski - Independent
Also, when he had a chance to stop ObamaCare by supporting Ted Cruz' filibuster
he FAILED
and hid behind a meaningless vote later.

Don't get me wrong ... certainly Cornyn deserves any and all blame that comes his way ... I'd love to hear him be questioned about these 'hand-selected' candidates ...

However, I'm also saying that I believe his 'boss' (the minority leader from KY) was the one who actually hand-picked these candidates and told Cornyn to back them.

Don’t bring a Crist to a Cruz fight.

**Crist = a bonanza of straight lines for Cruz! **

Crist and "straight" in the same sentence? That's a first.
