“Author Claims Norman Rockwell Was Closeted Homosexual,” William Bigelow writes at Big Government:
American Mirror: The Life and Art of Norman Rockwell, a new biography of the great American artist and iconic figure Norman Rockwell, accuses him of being a closeted homosexual, basing the spurious claim on the fact that Rockwell would stop young boys on the street or at recess and ask if they would pose for his illustrations. The author, Deborah Solomon, ignores the fact that Rockwell, who was married three times and had three children with his second wife, who died unexpectedly in 1959, stated in his autobiography that after he asked the boy, they would go together to ask the child’s mother for permission.Rockwell’s family is furious about the biography for its sloppiness and misuse of sources, saying there are a multitude of inaccuracies as well as a “phantom theory” about his sexuality. The family released a statement saying there were at least 96 factual errors in the book, and that Solomon made “highly selective” use of Rockwell’s autobiography “My Adventures as an Illustrator.”
Solomon would not reply to inquiries.

As a Costume Designer in Hollywood, I endured this mafia, much more devious and dangerous then any I encountered in the Chicago Mafia.. The way they treated me, and any unqueer competition that challenged their dominance was banished without any signs of humanity..

I saw his traveling art display last year at Crystal Bridges in Bentonville, AR. It is astounding! Definitely worth it!

Photosourcing in American illustration art is common. Paperback covers, magazine covers, interior illustrations.
Depends on the budget of the work and how many volunteers an artist can find rather than hiring models.
Even Rene Magritte photosourced his paintings.
Solomon drops hints about some kind of attraction to men or boys but admits that she doesn't believe that Rockwell actually had sex with any of them.
Norman Rockwell may or may not have been aware of some physical attraction, but nothing that Solomon relates would have been scandalous or surprising in an artist of Rockwell's day.
I'm pretty sure though, that the "pedophilia" that she finds in pictures like that of the cop and the runaway is in her own head, a product more of the suspicions of our own age than of anything in Rockwell.
Self loathing and a guilty mind will do that to a person.

I remember in my college Art History class having to memorize all the aspects of "Judy Chicago." Meanwhile, Norman Rockwell was not discussed at all.
