That copshop is still there, just off Regent’s street. It’s 500yards from Piccadilly Circus.
The main docks are in the East end, but the whole of the South Bank of the Thames was dock at that time.
Those are probably the docks he is referring to.
Which means that the copshop is only half a mile from the Thames at Whitehall.
Soho is still a Steamy area now...
Wow. That’s good to know. Here I was thinking that I was reading about a London that was, and not a London that still is, in a manner of speaking.
The author makes reference to the docks and that the bombs set fires “that light up the whole east end,” or “the fires from the docks lit up the skies,” so blackout curtains were useless.
Is it really true,
