Dispelling Myths: The Case for Immigration Reform [Enjoy your made-in-America ZOT, troll]
Red Dirt Report ^ | 12/27/2013 | Brian Woodward

Posted on 12/27/2013 11:24:17 AM PST by honestabe010

In his press conference on December 20th, President Obama urged the House of Representatives to support the Senate’s immigration bill, which passed 68-32 in late June. Among the concerns cited by Americans who oppose reform are that immigrants will take their jobs, drive down wages, increase criminal activity, burden the welfare system, and reshape the cultural dynamic of the country. These concerns are mostly ill-founded. The legitimate concerns have real solutions, and a more open immigration policy will be a net benefit for all Americans...

Highlights from Article:

- A 2013 study by the American Action Forum states that "immigration reform can raise population growth, labor force growth, and thus growth in Gross Domestic Product (GDP).”

- In 2013 the Bipartisan Policy Center came to similar conclusions. It makes the prediction that current provisions, as included in the Senate Bill, would raise GDP 4.8 percent over twenty years.

- According to the Immigration Policy Center, immigrant males between the ages of 18 and 39 (which constitute the greatest portion of the prison population) are five times less likely to be incarcerated than are natives.

- A 2011 survey by the Pew Research Center revealed that 92 percent of second generation and 96 percent of third generation Hispanics speak English proficiently.

- A 2010 Gallup poll revealed that Hispanics attend church services more often than non-Hispanic whites.

- Since an influx of immigrants means an expansion of the labor supply, many assert that the result will be less jobs and lower wages. However, as asserted by Jason Riley, a member of the Wall Street Journal editorial board, “The number of jobs in the United States is not static. It’s fluid, which is how we want it to be.”

When I apply for my retirement job as a cashier at Walmart, “Executive Secretary to the Imperial Weatherman and Disturber of Manitoba” will look good on my work history. Right?

OK, because both were used, and that confused me! But I see by your explanation that they are interchangeable! LOL!

I thought that was cute, but the consensus opinion of the byos’ was “creepy.” Maybe it was the beeping music they didn’t like; they have nothing against teenaged Korean girls.

I have never trusted Metro (LV Metropolitan Police) or the county sheriffs department, but Henderson cops are an awesome bunch of guys. Most are fairly young and when it comes to those of us in the complex, they will drop everything and run to help us.

When they get a call from here, we can expect a police car, an ambulance and a fire truck, and not necessarily in that order. That means we normally have about eight young men in attendance...*pant-pant* *hubba-hubba*

Oh yes, Moosie...they refer to the fire truck (I think?) (in the book) as an “appliance.” Is it still the same?

This is why I offered help, Brit English is as hard to understand as Chinese.
The language that is used around visitors is Queens English, as soon as the door is closed out comes the Regional dialect.
The number of times my posts on here are at the multiple edit level, says it all. :)

Union County Sheriff’s Department has been scandal-free as long as we’ve lived here. And they’re very nice about bringing the byos home when someone reports that they’re being “neglected” because they’re playing outside.

London. It’s called “The Black Mile: the Soho Noir” murders... The cop shop was on Savile Row, and covered a lot of areas I’ve read about in other books. It’s about a serial killer, though that term was never used at that time in history, because of his method, they called him the “Soho Ripper.”

The author makes many references to the docks on the Thames, being bombed by the Luftwaffe, so maybe you can narrow it down a little.

(My kindle just died, so I don’t know what’s going to happen with that...)

"When I apply for my retirement job as a cashier at Walmart, “Executive Secretary to the Imperial Weatherman and Disturber of Manitoba” will look good on my work history. Right?"

It would look awesome! Ask Pat.

But, to be completely accurate, you would have to refer to yourself as being "the Associate Subverter of Manitoba".

It's up to you if you want to be connected with the "Spinning of Complex Yarns".

Note: "So regime change in Manitoba is the official policy of the Flying Castle?"

Regime change in Manitoba is the official policy of the Imperial Weatherman.

Title granted by King Prout as follows:

NicknamedBob - K'nigget. Imperial Weatherman and Subverter of Manitoba. Supreme Architect of the Floating Citadel. Royal Bard of the Order of the Holy Aranea, Spinner of Complex Yarns.
The purpose of subverting Manitoba is to establish it as an independent nation, able to make treaties and contracts with other world and business entities.

With possible assistance from other forward-seeking nations such as Australia, we hope to begin the necessary steps for building an Antarctic Launch Base for terrestrial and interplanetary irrigation projects, and to build a presence in space for the safety and defense of Earth, Mars, and the rest of the Solar System.

Please refer to plans and discussions in the original Undead Thread for further details.

Even with all my exposure to Brits and things British, I have trouble with local idioms and dialects, so I really do appreciate your help.

Maybe some day, I’ll get to come and visit, but it’s probably Up There with that dream of visiting Iceland before I die. Or going back to Germany...
