In his press conference on December 20th, President Obama urged the House of Representatives to support the Senates immigration bill, which passed 68-32 in late June. Among the concerns cited by Americans who oppose reform are that immigrants will take their jobs, drive down wages, increase criminal activity, burden the welfare system, and reshape the cultural dynamic of the country. These concerns are mostly ill-founded. The legitimate concerns have real solutions, and a more open immigration policy will be a net benefit for all Americans...
Highlights from Article:
- A 2013 study by the American Action Forum states that "immigration reform can raise population growth, labor force growth, and thus growth in Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
- In 2013 the Bipartisan Policy Center came to similar conclusions. It makes the prediction that current provisions, as included in the Senate Bill, would raise GDP 4.8 percent over twenty years.
- According to the Immigration Policy Center, immigrant males between the ages of 18 and 39 (which constitute the greatest portion of the prison population) are five times less likely to be incarcerated than are natives.
- A 2011 survey by the Pew Research Center revealed that 92 percent of second generation and 96 percent of third generation Hispanics speak English proficiently.
- A 2010 Gallup poll revealed that Hispanics attend church services more often than non-Hispanic whites.
- Since an influx of immigrants means an expansion of the labor supply, many assert that the result will be less jobs and lower wages. However, as asserted by Jason Riley, a member of the Wall Street Journal editorial board, The number of jobs in the United States is not static. Its fluid, which is how we want it to be.

Some of the stars went on to do great things, but others were washed up.
One of them was a real dummy.
Received via email:
I agree with our Native American population-—I am highly insulted by the racially charged name of the Washington Redskins.
One might argue that to name a professional football team after Native Americans would exalt them as warriors, but nay nay....
We must be careful not to offend, and in the spirit of political correctness and courtesy, we must move forward.
Let’s ditch The Kansas City Chiefs, The Atlanta Braves and the Cleveland Indians. If your shorts are in a wad because of the reference the name Redskins makes to skin color, then we need to get rid of the Cleveland Browns.
The Carolina Panthers obviously were named to keep the memory of the militant Blacks from the 60’s alive. Gone. Offensive to the white folk.
The New York Yankees offend the Southern population. Do you see a team named for the Confederacy? No! There is no room for any reference to that tragic war between the states that cost this country so many young men’s lives. Besides, the South shall rise again!!
I am also offended by the blatant references to the Catholic religion among our football team names. Totally inappropriate to have the New Orleans Saints, Los Angeles Angels or the San Diego Padres. The fact that there are birds on their shirts does not protect either the Arizona or the St. Louis Cardinals-—gone!
Then there are the team names that glorify criminals who raped and pillaged as their way of life. We are talking the horrible Oakland Raiders, the Minnesota Vikings, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Pittsburgh Pirates!
Now, let us address those teams that clearly send the wrong message to our children-—and it is all about the children.
The San Diego Chargers promote irresponsible spending habits. Wrong message to our children.
The New York Giants and the San Francisco Giants promote obesity—a growing childhood epidemic. Wrong message to our children.
The Cincinnati Reds promote downers/barbiturates. Wrong message to our children.
The Milwaukee Brewers-—well, that goes without saying.... Wrong message to our children.
So, there you go. We need to support any legislation that comes out to rectify this travesty, because the government will likely become involved with this issue, as they should. A high priority directly behind efficiently managing our country’s health care.
It was cold, wicked cold with high winds coming off the big lake making huge drifts for me to undo with the snowblower (might I add, a mean mother of a snowblower, would go through anything and sneer), but I've seen it worse back in 1994 when it got to.....*drum roll*.......-35° . Like Joe Bastardi said, this has happened over each decade of the twentieth century, way before enough carbon was in the atmosphere to be at fault.
Bastardi doesn't know about Darks though, Darks clearly did the Polar Vortex break out, don't let him kid you, twas his fault....
:-)
I am seriously offended about the Irish being portrayed as a drunk, fighting, midget with no sense.
Totally demeaning.
Do you think she possibly got the instructions misunderstood?
She was supposed to “Hold this in your fingers and cover every inch with chocolate.”
Probably. Misunderstandings like that have a long history.
For example:
The ancient Greeks thought that epileptics were possessed of the Gods.
When the Romans collided with the Greek culture they ended up adopting many customs and ideas.
One thing they thought was a really good idea was putting people possessed of the Gods in charge.
Hence the phrase “Hail Seizure!”
Are you pulling my lower extremity?
*El groano*
I think she must have been hungry, the poor waif.
Maybe I should invest in companies that make warm clothing.

It’s a little warmer here.
Clothing alone isn't quite enough. I'd like an instant den to curl up in, with sunshine.
Like the cat.
Yes! The very one! Thanks, Nully!! *hug*
(She looks rather cold, dontchathink???)
Kitteh has the right idea, for sure! LOL!
