Dispelling Myths: The Case for Immigration Reform [Enjoy your made-in-America ZOT, troll]
Red Dirt Report ^ | 12/27/2013 | Brian Woodward

Posted on 12/27/2013 11:24:17 AM PST by honestabe010

In his press conference on December 20th, President Obama urged the House of Representatives to support the Senate’s immigration bill, which passed 68-32 in late June. Among the concerns cited by Americans who oppose reform are that immigrants will take their jobs, drive down wages, increase criminal activity, burden the welfare system, and reshape the cultural dynamic of the country. These concerns are mostly ill-founded. The legitimate concerns have real solutions, and a more open immigration policy will be a net benefit for all Americans...

Highlights from Article:

- A 2013 study by the American Action Forum states that "immigration reform can raise population growth, labor force growth, and thus growth in Gross Domestic Product (GDP).”

- In 2013 the Bipartisan Policy Center came to similar conclusions. It makes the prediction that current provisions, as included in the Senate Bill, would raise GDP 4.8 percent over twenty years.

- According to the Immigration Policy Center, immigrant males between the ages of 18 and 39 (which constitute the greatest portion of the prison population) are five times less likely to be incarcerated than are natives.

- A 2011 survey by the Pew Research Center revealed that 92 percent of second generation and 96 percent of third generation Hispanics speak English proficiently.

- A 2010 Gallup poll revealed that Hispanics attend church services more often than non-Hispanic whites.

- Since an influx of immigrants means an expansion of the labor supply, many assert that the result will be less jobs and lower wages. However, as asserted by Jason Riley, a member of the Wall Street Journal editorial board, “The number of jobs in the United States is not static. It’s fluid, which is how we want it to be.”

I try to pay my way, with my own gas, and buying groceries, or, if all else fails, a thank-you gift and/or card for the host and hostess. Money doesn’t always allow a gift, or groceries, or other expenditures, but if I could, I would be a welcome guest...one who is pleased to be invited, etc.

But my bother loves me and WOULD pay for my gas home if I asked!

To both of you...My dad died when I was 17, and because of the circumstances, I was responsible for the funeral arrangements. I never cried for him, though I have mourned him all this time.

My mother died 19 years, 11 months and 12 days later...or, not so precisely, 20 years later.

The dynamics between my mother and I were such that she never knew how much I loved her. My dad? He was always above the earthly emotions. He forgave everyone for everything.

We Love our Parents and our Parents Love Us. One does what one can for their Parents. Our Parents, in their Love, did what they could for us. Am sorry Face that both of your Parents have gone to be waiting for you to come to them. It is a cycle ... We come, We see our Parents, our Parents are called to leave, then we leave to be with them. Bless the cycle ... Amen.

I prefer reverse where am born old and go out as a gleam and twinkle in my Father's and Mother's eye. Guess that makes each of us something call human and I truly believe God understands why I prefer reverse.

I just packed up 10-dozen cookies that Sally baked for the prison ministry. A few are left over for Kathleen (and I think I hear Tom masticating).

That is probably Tom DROOLING. Check the floors and furniture for wet spots.

I have yet to get the GS Cookies this year...

I am thankful that I was allowed to have the parents I did, even though they were taken from me when I thought I still needed them. They taught me enough in their lives with me that I am able to overcome the things that the world throws at me, and I know that in the end, my parents will be waiting for me with open arms.

So there is THAT!

I was going to donate for Cookies for the Troops on Sunday, but the money I thought I had in my purse was missing. *sigh* $4 a box, and they’ve probably cut the quantities again.

When my kids were young, I threatened mayhem, disaster, dismemberment and banishment if I ever found ANYTHING missing from my purse...money, keys, etc. It was instant Time Out if the contents had been rearranged or otherwise fiddled with.

At the time, Igor gave my desk a wide berth because I KNEW when anyone had been into it. These days, I don’t have to worry...no one here but me...

The rule, for me, is if she wants something from her purse, I’ll take her purse to her.

That was a wise lesson. My kids got to that point before they were very far into their teen years.

Igor? It took a while longer for him...but he DID learn...

I can’t open the right rear door...

That's a feature.

It keeps rear seat passengers from jumping out of the vehicle and drowning in that torrential ran out there...
