Dispelling Myths: The Case for Immigration Reform [Enjoy your made-in-America ZOT, troll]
Red Dirt Report ^ | 12/27/2013 | Brian Woodward

Posted on 12/27/2013 11:24:17 AM PST by honestabe010

In his press conference on December 20th, President Obama urged the House of Representatives to support the Senate’s immigration bill, which passed 68-32 in late June. Among the concerns cited by Americans who oppose reform are that immigrants will take their jobs, drive down wages, increase criminal activity, burden the welfare system, and reshape the cultural dynamic of the country. These concerns are mostly ill-founded. The legitimate concerns have real solutions, and a more open immigration policy will be a net benefit for all Americans...

Highlights from Article:

- A 2013 study by the American Action Forum states that "immigration reform can raise population growth, labor force growth, and thus growth in Gross Domestic Product (GDP).”

- In 2013 the Bipartisan Policy Center came to similar conclusions. It makes the prediction that current provisions, as included in the Senate Bill, would raise GDP 4.8 percent over twenty years.

- According to the Immigration Policy Center, immigrant males between the ages of 18 and 39 (which constitute the greatest portion of the prison population) are five times less likely to be incarcerated than are natives.

- A 2011 survey by the Pew Research Center revealed that 92 percent of second generation and 96 percent of third generation Hispanics speak English proficiently.

- A 2010 Gallup poll revealed that Hispanics attend church services more often than non-Hispanic whites.

- Since an influx of immigrants means an expansion of the labor supply, many assert that the result will be less jobs and lower wages. However, as asserted by Jason Riley, a member of the Wall Street Journal editorial board, “The number of jobs in the United States is not static. It’s fluid, which is how we want it to be.”

As soon as I can get the MonkeyMobile serviced and detailed, I will be more than happy to visit. I just need to make sure I have enough gas money to get there and back.

I have so many relatives in the Valley of the Sun that I don’t have to worry about “food and lodging.”

My extended family goes as far south as Suaharita, and I have friends in Tucson that need to see me. (I don’t know why, but I know they need to) and if I have a week to ten days, I can pack in all the visits I can handle.

Anyway, I am VERY anxious to GO!!!

You forgot abalone.

This is a true story: I worked for Ma Bell, but on the weekends I would go to Santa Barbara and work on an abalone boat called the Awabi Maru. It was my job to check the main anchor, and watch the guys’ bubbles when they were getting the abalone off the rocks. You had to use air from the boat. It was illegal to SCUBA dive for them.

So I checked the anchor for what? Rotting iron? I didn’t know.

We were in between Santa Barbara and the islands off the coast. My two sisters and one of their boyfriends were on another abalone boat, also. I swam back and forth from one boat to another. It was fun.

Time for work next morning. We used the main anchor. It’s hard to write this. The anchor was twisted. The boat went under. May Day! The Captain threw me down into the cabin. They got the anchor up before we went totally under.

My sisters’ boat was within my swimming distance, a mile or so, but sharks are hanging around out there.

Anyway, the boat bounced back up. Just had to bucket out a lot of water. We survived. I don’t think I worked on that boat again.

Thanks NnB!

My shoulder and hand are now up to posting. But it is gardening season. Today it was pretty overcast out, so I stayed inside and played in the castle!

I want to hear about this face-to-face.

Our overcast on this side was mostly snow.

Although it spitted and snarled all day there was no accumulation. Of course I haven’t looked out a window recently.

Anything could be happening.

Nothing here, and the overnight forecast is above freezing.

Right now, it’s 69 degrees...I’m not having a very good night...

It would seem the Busdaddy is in control of things, and I’m not very optimistic of the outcome...

You don’t have to let someone else control things. If something is happening that you don’t like, you can identify it and say, “No.”

Is it easy? No, it isn’t. The option is there ... but on the other hand, if you don’t take it, don’t beat yourself up over it. It’s hard to change long-ingrained habits.

It’s 7:00 your time zone; tell everyone it’s your bedtime!

That line that runs almost all the way across the country at the top of Tennessee is the rain/snow line for this evening.

We’re already below freezing, and there’s a weather advisory.

Mid-day tomorrow, it’ll likely be in Joisey.

steep for ten minutes...Earl Grey steeps for three..

You don't need a timer to make tea.. Using one adds extra work to the process.

Grab your 20 ounce 'I support the second amendment' insulated mug, toss in your sugar, dangle the teabag over the edge, and pour in the hot steaming liquid. You don't even need a spoon because the action of pouring stirs in the sugar. Put the lid on the mug and go sit in front of your computer and commence bothering trolls and noobs.. By the time the liquid in the mug has cooled to drink-without-melting-lip level, it will be sufficiently steeped and you will not have wasted a bunch of time watching a timer count backwards.

otherwise it tastes like soap for some reason.

You're just making your Earl Grey in too small of a container. That's why you need a 20 ounce 'Support the second amendment' mug... those little wussie 'tea' cups are much too small to extract all the goodstuff from the bag, so in rebellion it convinces your tastebuds that it tastes soapy.

By the way, how is it you know what soap tastes like?

Lemon ruins the flavour of Fish...
On Cod, Haddock ,Trout, &c I’ll agree with that.
However , Place, Dover sole, Halibut, are tasteless without it.
Never put lemon on Salmon. ...*Shudder*

Have you tried Curried fish...
Part cooked Cod flakes dropped in a madras to finish off.

Chillied fish for that matter is just as good.
Nz Whitebait gently fried in chili sause.
