Dispelling Myths: The Case for Immigration Reform [Enjoy your made-in-America ZOT, troll]
Red Dirt Report ^ | 12/27/2013 | Brian Woodward

Posted on 12/27/2013 11:24:17 AM PST by honestabe010

In his press conference on December 20th, President Obama urged the House of Representatives to support the Senate’s immigration bill, which passed 68-32 in late June. Among the concerns cited by Americans who oppose reform are that immigrants will take their jobs, drive down wages, increase criminal activity, burden the welfare system, and reshape the cultural dynamic of the country. These concerns are mostly ill-founded. The legitimate concerns have real solutions, and a more open immigration policy will be a net benefit for all Americans...

Highlights from Article:

- A 2013 study by the American Action Forum states that "immigration reform can raise population growth, labor force growth, and thus growth in Gross Domestic Product (GDP).”

- In 2013 the Bipartisan Policy Center came to similar conclusions. It makes the prediction that current provisions, as included in the Senate Bill, would raise GDP 4.8 percent over twenty years.

- According to the Immigration Policy Center, immigrant males between the ages of 18 and 39 (which constitute the greatest portion of the prison population) are five times less likely to be incarcerated than are natives.

- A 2011 survey by the Pew Research Center revealed that 92 percent of second generation and 96 percent of third generation Hispanics speak English proficiently.

- A 2010 Gallup poll revealed that Hispanics attend church services more often than non-Hispanic whites.

- Since an influx of immigrants means an expansion of the labor supply, many assert that the result will be less jobs and lower wages. However, as asserted by Jason Riley, a member of the Wall Street Journal editorial board, “The number of jobs in the United States is not static. It’s fluid, which is how we want it to be.”

I want to see “The Lego Movie!”

I went to see it, along with a party including my youngest nephew. According to the legends I heard, this was his first movie.

As the preliminary stuff was going on, he was slumped in his seat, as if perhaps thinking this was some kind of medical torture again.

But after the movie started, and he saw the Lego characters come alive, he came alive too! He had a great time!

By the way, watch out for KRA**GL*E.

Toilet training a puppy is actually almost exactly like toilet training a 1 year old.

I suppose I will eventually have to get the movie on DVD. I’ve gotten out of the habit of watching movies, and that’s sad. I need to get back to being a couch potato! (If I only had a couch!)

Just wow! Cyber and I will have to get to MA for the Lexington re-enactment, or just to have a look around. Lucky you.

I am so J.

AZ is the 49th State. We do have history, but I’ve only seen a few things around here. I’ve shown Cyber a lot of California historical places, but it gets a bit hot here in the summertime. When it hits the 115-degree mark, it’s time to be in the air-conditioned home and do crazy things. This year we’re canning again.

You learn to get a lot of indoor hobbies during the summer.

How in the heck could you climb a mountain pregnant and pushing a baby carrier? Are you superwoman? I’m in awe of you!

I wish I could send you texted photos of the FTI Unit. Three photos of him. In one he’s skinny. Next one, he is normal. And the third one, he’s a fat cat. He is a shape shifter, too!

"You have any children in Maine?"

The proper answer to this question, published in Playboy many decades ago, is "none to speak of".

Playboy... Let me think.. Oh yeah, that's the magazine everyone bought just for the, um, articles.

Do not be deceived. The photography too, like that in National Geographic, was top-notch.

I'm sure you're a better person for having paid your debt to society.

I've only been to some local prisons, including the women's prison. I didn't have to stay very long.

My brother went to a few prisons too. He took notes.

Ungh...fud.

I will go to Walmart soon (another 45 minutes or so), and pick up some herbal meds I’m out of, as well some Cardboardeaux, and then, after 0900, I will head to the jewelry store to get the pin put in my watchband.

Then, if I haven’t done it between Walmart and the jewelry store, I will vacuum and think very hard about beginning the bookcase transition: emptying the crates, and putting them outside, emptying the small bookcase and putting it under the window where the crates are now, and bringing in the BIG bookcase (seven shelves) and putting it behind the door.

And THAT leaves me with a dilemma...where will I hang the mirror when the bookcase is against that wall???

Of course, between now and then, I could lose all momentum... ;o])

"... where will I hang the mirror when the bookcase is against that wall???"

Do you have a door to mount it on?
