Dispelling Myths: The Case for Immigration Reform [Enjoy your made-in-America ZOT, troll]
Red Dirt Report ^ | 12/27/2013 | Brian Woodward

Posted on 12/27/2013 11:24:17 AM PST by honestabe010

In his press conference on December 20th, President Obama urged the House of Representatives to support the Senate’s immigration bill, which passed 68-32 in late June. Among the concerns cited by Americans who oppose reform are that immigrants will take their jobs, drive down wages, increase criminal activity, burden the welfare system, and reshape the cultural dynamic of the country. These concerns are mostly ill-founded. The legitimate concerns have real solutions, and a more open immigration policy will be a net benefit for all Americans...

Highlights from Article:

- A 2013 study by the American Action Forum states that "immigration reform can raise population growth, labor force growth, and thus growth in Gross Domestic Product (GDP).”

- In 2013 the Bipartisan Policy Center came to similar conclusions. It makes the prediction that current provisions, as included in the Senate Bill, would raise GDP 4.8 percent over twenty years.

- According to the Immigration Policy Center, immigrant males between the ages of 18 and 39 (which constitute the greatest portion of the prison population) are five times less likely to be incarcerated than are natives.

- A 2011 survey by the Pew Research Center revealed that 92 percent of second generation and 96 percent of third generation Hispanics speak English proficiently.

- A 2010 Gallup poll revealed that Hispanics attend church services more often than non-Hispanic whites.

- Since an influx of immigrants means an expansion of the labor supply, many assert that the result will be less jobs and lower wages. However, as asserted by Jason Riley, a member of the Wall Street Journal editorial board, “The number of jobs in the United States is not static. It’s fluid, which is how we want it to be.”

Lots of stuff like that going on here...some can be helped with state and local agencies, but some are truly destitute. Bless you, Anoreth, for helping your friend.

Been in Philly. Do NOT want to go back! My son was 2 and a half and got chicken pox. We lived in a one bedroom apartment under the owner’s son...when his wife would wash clothes, my kitchen would flood. There was a “patio” that was a lop-sided piece of cement next to the owner’s auto repair shop, and when I would put my son outside to play, he was subject to gasoline fumes.

I couldn’t take him out of there soon enough. His lungs were bad, anyway, because I smoked when I was pregnant...this was before it was “hazardous to your health.”

Philadelphia is the city at the very bottom of my “must see” list, and I arrange it so that it is ALWAYS at the bottom.

I think I will have some tea before I go to bed, but I would dearly love some scones and marmalade! It would all be so very perfect!

Button 2: Some Foreign language.

Let me guess - Arabic.

What do I win?

Since I know you're not in California, Nevada, Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, Florida, or New York City, where it would be Spanish... ;-)

LOL,
RTE do an English language service on Shortwave.
It is usually French, delivered at a massive cadence.
Arabic is available evenly spaced between 2Mhz Sw and 108Mhz Fm.

..usually French,..

You know what's annoying? Those French have a different word for everything...

Arabic is available

That's why I mentioned it. Seeing as how UK is so tolerant of the ROP, I knew they had to offer radio programing in gibberish, er, Arabic to avoid offending the perpetually offended... Is this offered under the BBC foreign service, or would lumping then as foreigners offensively offend them too?

I hear the flood is receeding. We can help by shipping your way gallons upon gallons of snow melt any day now.. ;-) (Freezing rainglop forecast for tomorrow AM...)

Now that would depend on who you listen to and where they are stood.
The water is still going through this area like it is on a mission.
If we must have a delivery of this much water , i am glad it wasn't snow.
This soggy mess will need a dry summer to clear it up. They are already predicting a catastrophic harvest due to the excess water in the soil.
Then the Gov can forget about all of the elaborate schemes it has hot aired about in recent weeks.

Most languages are catered for by the BBC with local radio services in the languages used in that area. Area: read counties and Towns.
SW has Arabic flowing in both directions, EU to ME and ME to EU.
With all of the Foreign language services offered by almost every country in the EU to each other and the world it has gained the name of ‘the European Mush’.
DXing through all the noise can be challenging.
I created a weired box with tunable 3Meter antenna and tunable Earth to weed through the noise.
This covers SW, AM, FM, WFM, Surprisingly well on the local circuit.
A 200 foot longwire is unmanageable without electronic sound filters and tuneing.

They are already predicting a catastrophic harvest due to the excess water in the soil.

Which probably is truth. Two summers ago we had a very wet spring into early summer. The farmer planted his corn and then it rained for 40 days, er, wait.. for almost two weeks straight. Then just as whatever corn didn't float away from being underwater (clay soil drains so well you know) was sprouting enough to be recognizable, it rained again for a solid week. The ground couldn't hold any more water and the field flooded again. Finally after July 4 (when the corn is supposed to be knee high..) he looked over the wide swaths of nothing with an occasional brave corn stalk, and planted another crop.. It cost him a lot more than he wanted to get his corn for his cows that year.

Last year was manageable. Waiting to see what we get this year. All this snow - is it a foretaste, or just Algore having a snitfit because we're on to him...

On another note, I'm sitting here in the midst of over two feet of snow and I'm working on stuff for this June. Specifically, notices to our group about this because as usual (since there are still 126 days.. ;-) only our 'core' people are 'signed up'..

Last year we had to add tickets three times, and still after the last deadline date two someones who should have known better asked if we had any tickets left.. Hey - the first block of tickets we get is the cheapest they will get this year. When they are gone whatever we have to add will cost more (ours are at $92. When those sell, add on's will be at $99 - and it goes up each month. If they really wait, it'll cost them $120 at the gate. I never understand why those who usually are with us each year still wait until the last minute.

And on still another note, to concatenate replies, it has been years since I did any series SWL/DXing.. Would need to acquire some equipment to enable listening to more than AM/FM and my scanner (set to mostly railroad frequencies). I hear now that they have dropped the cw requirement for an amateur license (except for advanced) so I might just look into it again..

And yes, sufficient metal in the air to grab signal and appropriate tuning filtering notching things are very necessary. I'm sure the airwaves are more crowded now than they were back when I was tuning around (on an old ancient Knight Kit sw receiver - not one of the better pieces of equipment I have owned over the years, shoulda bought the Heathklit.. ;-)
