Dispelling Myths: The Case for Immigration Reform [Enjoy your made-in-America ZOT, troll]
Red Dirt Report ^ | 12/27/2013 | Brian Woodward

Posted on 12/27/2013 11:24:17 AM PST by honestabe010

In his press conference on December 20th, President Obama urged the House of Representatives to support the Senate’s immigration bill, which passed 68-32 in late June. Among the concerns cited by Americans who oppose reform are that immigrants will take their jobs, drive down wages, increase criminal activity, burden the welfare system, and reshape the cultural dynamic of the country. These concerns are mostly ill-founded. The legitimate concerns have real solutions, and a more open immigration policy will be a net benefit for all Americans...

Highlights from Article:

- A 2013 study by the American Action Forum states that "immigration reform can raise population growth, labor force growth, and thus growth in Gross Domestic Product (GDP).”

- In 2013 the Bipartisan Policy Center came to similar conclusions. It makes the prediction that current provisions, as included in the Senate Bill, would raise GDP 4.8 percent over twenty years.

- According to the Immigration Policy Center, immigrant males between the ages of 18 and 39 (which constitute the greatest portion of the prison population) are five times less likely to be incarcerated than are natives.

- A 2011 survey by the Pew Research Center revealed that 92 percent of second generation and 96 percent of third generation Hispanics speak English proficiently.

- A 2010 Gallup poll revealed that Hispanics attend church services more often than non-Hispanic whites.

- Since an influx of immigrants means an expansion of the labor supply, many assert that the result will be less jobs and lower wages. However, as asserted by Jason Riley, a member of the Wall Street Journal editorial board, “The number of jobs in the United States is not static. It’s fluid, which is how we want it to be.”

What can I say, Fritz was quite possibly the dumbest dog to ever somehow live.

I don’t know his political preferences.

Not so much a political thing as it is a male thing. If he's been 'fixed' then he is as testosterone infused as the congressional Republicans... And he could be MORE so, especially compared to that turkey, er, Speaker from Ohio... ;-)

Our recent bout of cold elsewhere is because Sharkey’s “Cold Containment Unit” broke and seeped cold out.
Now he has to fix it and start all over again on hoarding the cold.

We were thinking of getting our male fixed. Are you saying it wouldn’t stop the whining?

Wouldn't work on me.

I used to do engineering on earthmovers.
And that particular expression was used by Billy Ray Morse down in southern Georgia complaining about the lack of tractive effort capability on one of them.
Never forgot it.

If Rush gets fixed, he may whine a lot for the first year, then maybe a little less the second year, but by the time the offending “accoutrements” have been gone three years, he may be doing well to thump his tail on the floor when he gets a subtle breeze...

"Has that happened to you?"

Not recently, no.

A little over a decade ago, I went in to a meeting on a Wednesday morning, and was unemployed that afternoon.

Eventually, I decided that if I couldn't be employed gainfully at things I was familiar with, I'd try my hand at just doing whatever interested me, and seeing how that worked out.

I think I'm better off than they are.

;) By the way Fredd our dog whines all the time. That is how he talks to us. If he has to go out...he whines. Yet I am sure it isn’t the same kind of whine when a female dog is in heat. He was just fixed when we got him.

....when our Northern neighbors send us some of their warmest greetings... ;-)

South Park was wrong. Don't blame Canada. This comes from the North-west. Blame Alaska. ;-)

We have -26c now. It was -29c this morning. We are supposed to warm up this weekend, and then back into the deep freeze by Tues.

That’s okay.
Buckeyes are used to the Michigander Swamp Fox having strange plans on bringing on the neo-ice age.
[After all, they and their abominable snow yeti servants are bottled up into the Michigan mitt due to the relatively balmy temps just south of the border.]

All joking aside, hope Sharkey is okay because a good portion of Michigan DID get stomped flat by ice and snow recently.

Sorta.
I can always burn a squirrel for warmth.
A nice crunchy snack afterwards too.
And if I really need extra BTUs, I can BBQ a bear!
