Dispelling Myths: The Case for Immigration Reform [Enjoy your made-in-America ZOT, troll]
Red Dirt Report ^ | 12/27/2013 | Brian Woodward

Posted on 12/27/2013 11:24:17 AM PST by honestabe010

In his press conference on December 20th, President Obama urged the House of Representatives to support the Senate’s immigration bill, which passed 68-32 in late June. Among the concerns cited by Americans who oppose reform are that immigrants will take their jobs, drive down wages, increase criminal activity, burden the welfare system, and reshape the cultural dynamic of the country. These concerns are mostly ill-founded. The legitimate concerns have real solutions, and a more open immigration policy will be a net benefit for all Americans...

Highlights from Article:

- A 2013 study by the American Action Forum states that "immigration reform can raise population growth, labor force growth, and thus growth in Gross Domestic Product (GDP).”

- In 2013 the Bipartisan Policy Center came to similar conclusions. It makes the prediction that current provisions, as included in the Senate Bill, would raise GDP 4.8 percent over twenty years.

- According to the Immigration Policy Center, immigrant males between the ages of 18 and 39 (which constitute the greatest portion of the prison population) are five times less likely to be incarcerated than are natives.

- A 2011 survey by the Pew Research Center revealed that 92 percent of second generation and 96 percent of third generation Hispanics speak English proficiently.

- A 2010 Gallup poll revealed that Hispanics attend church services more often than non-Hispanic whites.

- Since an influx of immigrants means an expansion of the labor supply, many assert that the result will be less jobs and lower wages. However, as asserted by Jason Riley, a member of the Wall Street Journal editorial board, “The number of jobs in the United States is not static. It’s fluid, which is how we want it to be.”

Still has pulse but no breathing

Must have fallen off the couch in their parent's basement and can't get up because it's tangled in it's onesie and covered in spilled hot chocolate that is now very cold...

And on that note I am off to have a discussion about life and the pursuit of solidified glowbull warmthing with my olde Deere..

We decided to just let the Kerblacht win.

Shadow would never do that!

But if it keeps little Kerblacht happy and prevents her from chomping your arms off, you did the right thing, especially if you can’t regenerate missing parts as Darks can.

Mandy versus technology.

I’m told that my coffee has amazing restorative powers.
Try it out on a victim first.
Choose one: Vlad, or Pat.

Whichever one loses a limb first.

You could *cough* declare that one has been damaged and use the coffee experimentally just to see what happens?

Your coffee makes my nose fall off, and sometimes my fingers and my ears. Then I have to grow it all back again. I like the coffee, but growing parts back is not a plus. Just sayin’.

We’re currently having a stellar day, at 54, no clouds and no wind. The sky is that deep winter blue that shows up the contrails of ALL the jets in a 50 mile radius.

I would love to go out and sit, but I didn’t sleep well last night, and hit the ground running today. I still have a few things to do, but they will have to wait.

Next week, if I can swing it, I will get a haircut; I am in SUCH dire need of a shearing! LOL!

I have been cutting my hair, and Bryan’s too, for many years.

I never go to beauty parlors. Afraid I’ll break the mirrors.

It’s 9° here right now, on its way down to 7° tonight.

It’s supposed to be -17° the low on Monday night.

It’s in the 30s here, but there was plenty of Sunbeam.

I cut, styled, and permed my own hair since I was 14, but the arthritis in my shoulders, neck and elbows precludes me from indulging. Doing my own hairstyles for so long made me a nasty customer when I first had to rely on someone else...I was just never satisfied with the degree of perfection that was administered by someone else! My bad!

These days, of course, I’ve had to eat humble pie. Although, on my trip to visit the Tax-chicken Coop last spring, I was treated to a haircut (what’s one more head of hair between friends?) that has REALLY spoiled me!

And a trip to have our nails done was pretty awesome. I’m still trying to find a nail gel kit... At least I might be able to still do my own nails...

*shudder*

I want summer...

Wait. Did I say that already this week? If I did, never mind.

Tropical! [smiles]

Actually, I like the cold and the snow. Born in the New England and raised
in California, I’d been missing proper winters for many years.

Bryan used to take me to Big Bear over Christmas, but it was never enough.

Now that we live in the snow belt, I’m happier.

It’s rare for anything seriously wintry to happen in the Charlotte area. Therefore, nobody is prepared!
